soul mate
/ˈsōl ˌmāt/ • noun
a person ideally suited to another
as a close friend or romantic partner.

no, it can't be, or so he thought. chanhee read and reread the words. he just couldn't process it.

ofcourse he knew what a soulmate was. the person who you were to be with your whole life, your destiny, lies. those were lies that sugarcoated the harsh reality. lies that were told to 8 year olds to make them fall asleep.

chanhee knew. his father left his mother, his soulmate, for another woman. he couldn't bare the sight of seeing his mother faking a smile with pain threatening to fall off her eyes.

because of that, he despised soulmates. he dreaded the day ink would appear on his wrist. yet, that day has come.

it has been 23 hours since the ink has appeared. chanhee has been a wreck since. he didn't know what to feel. he didn't want to be hurt in the end, not for him, but for his mother's sake. but then again many soulmates turned out just fine.

not gonna lie, he was rather intrigued on how he would meet his soulmate. the words embedded in his wrist was rather interesting.

well aware that he was dissociating, he snapped out of it and tried to focus more on his homework. closing the dictionary, he got one last glance of the word and sighed.

——

"i miss you"

"i miss you too"

——

"hey, uhhhh, wake up its closing time."

chanhee woke up to a few taps on his shoulder. what happened? what time is it? why was he in the library? why was his head throbbing? why were there too many questions running through his head?

trying to process what was happening he managed to utter some words. "uhh, yeah sorry. what time is it?"

his vision, still hazy, tried it's best to make out the person's face, the librarian's assistant maybe?

"seven pm" the assistant chuckled "also would you like me to return the books or are you gonna borrow them?"

chanhee averted his gaze to his desk. rather messy, his cheeks started to heat up. "o-okay you can return them. thanks."

his eyes started adjusting to the bright library lights and was able to make up the person's face. chubby cheeks, kinda messy brunette hair. cute

"no its alright, i hope you go home safely." the assistant smiled.

that smile

"i miss you"

"hey, what's your name." chanhee grabbed the brunette's wrist preventing him from leaving. realizing this a second later he muttered a sorry and let his wrist go.

"no it's fine, it's ji changmin." he smiled. that smile. butterfly's started flying in chanhee's stomach.

"ahhh thanks," chanhee got up and gathered his things, figuring out that he was overstaying his visit at the library. " i'll go now stay safe on your way home too"

flashing a smile at the brunette, he kinda sprinted to the door, embarrassed and confused.
