You reappeared right outside the shields around the magic school as per usual. The headmistress was there greeting the staff and students as they entered the school. Not everyone was a day student and there were some staff who lived on campus, but there were some who commuted to the school, always arriving outside of the school's shields and let in through the gate by the headmistress.
You had your hand on Loki's arm as you walked to the gate. You saw your coworkers' eyes widen when they saw you. They'd all gotten used to you being stuck as a cat. Though your cat-ears and tail were still there and noticeable, so they may have been looking at that too. That was less likely as there was a member of staff who had them all the time just because she liked them.
Your grip tightened a little on Loki's arm and he looked down at you, giving you a reassuring smile. "They're just glad you're alright now, magelet," he reassured you when he saw your expression.
You nodded and gave him a smile. "Thanks, Lokitty,"
He rolled his eyes. "Darling, do I need to summon you a mirror so you can see that you're the one with cat-ears at the moment?" He asked, teasing you.
You poked him in the ribs. "Whatever you say, Lokitty," you replied and stuck your tongue out at him.
You and Loki were both laughing by the time you reached the headmistress. She gave you a warm, caring smile. "Y/N, I'm glad to see you back," she said warmly and you could tell the really meant it. They'd all been worried about you for logical reasons. You'd been through a lot between Sera and the witch hunters.
You nodded and gave her a smile in return. "Yes. Thank you for letting Loki teach my classes while I was unavailable,"
She laughed. "He did us a favor. Otherwise, we would have had to find a substitute for your classes on our own," she reminded you.
You laughed. It felt so good to be back to human and normal and back among your people. The team was great, but they weren't the witches and wizards you taught and worked with. The other thing you noted was how well Loki fit in here. The witches accepted Loki for who he was and appreciated his skills as a teacher. He was a remarkably good teacher of magic and he seemed built for it. It was a good place for him on Midgard and you realized that he was comfortable and happy here.
"It's an honor to teach at your school," he replied to the headmistress easily. He'd been scared of her when you had first brought him here and you realized just how much things had changed.
You continued into the school, greeting the students and staff you passed on the way. They were all glad to see you back. You headed up to your classroom with Loki. It felt like home to see him lounge behind your desk with a smirk.
"Professor! You're back!" Your students greeted you with hugs as they came into the room.
You laughed and accepted the hugs before you eventually had to make them take their seats. "Good morning, class," you greeted them fondly while Loki took attendance for you. "I am back and I'm grateful to all of you for your support and concern while I was recovering,"
You spent your lessons that day mostly telling the students what you'd been through and the lessons you'd learned from it. It was an important lesson for them, just as important as their official studies.
After you finished your classes for the morning, you got a note delivered by flying paper airplane. You opened it and smiled over at Loki. "What do you think about making some potions for the headmistress?" You asked him.
He smirked. "Sounds just like the first time I was here in human form," he purred. You'd worked well together that way and nearly ended up kissing in the potions lab before you saw all of the students watching you.
You took his hand and smiled up at him "Shall we then?" You asked him. He inclined his head and you headed down to the lab together. You stripped off your outer robe and set it aside to work in the hot potion's lab. Loki followed suit and you couldn't help watching him remove his cufflinks and carefully roll up his sleeves. "You're such a tease," you purred. You were surprised to find that you actually were purring over his appearance. Apparently you hadn't lost that ability when you human form returned.
"Am I?" He asked innocently. "Perhaps this is just a promise of more to come," he replied, his voice deeper with his seduction.
Your tail swished eagerly. "Something I look forward to, then," you said and moved over to him to kiss him, standing up on your toes to reach his lips.
Both of you pretended to ignore the students whispering outside of the lab and undoubtedly taking your pictures. Somehow, you couldn't bring yourself to care when you were kissing your Loki.
You finished up the potions quickly with his help and he cooled them safely with his abilities. You shrugged your robe back on after the potions were all bottled, labelled, and stored.
You took Loki's hand. He looked down at you to see what you needed, and didn't say anything when he saw the look on your face. There was something you had to say and you couldn't quite figure out how to get the words out. "There's one more place I need to visit while we're here," you told him softly when you finally found the words. There was pain and tears in your eyes, but you had to do this.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead. "Then we will go together," he said gently.
You squeezed his hand, glad he understood. "Together," you agreed.
You walked hand in hand with Loki through the halls until you came to the door you needed. You steeled your nerves to open it and was greeted with a cacophony of animal sounds when you made it inside. These were the familiars who were staying in the school until they found their witch or wizard.
You made your way to the back of the room where you knew Sera's egg was. You'd felt pulled to her the last time you were here. Today? Today you didn't. You reached her egg and placed your hand on it. There was some spark there. Your paths were still intertwined somehow, but you had the unwavering knowledge that when Sera was reborn, her destiny was not to be your familiar again.
Your paths were still intertwined, but she wasn't your familiar.
You didn't know how you paths would be intertwined. You couldn't see the future. They would be, though. You'd see Sera again after she hatched. You felt it in your bones.
It hurt, but at the same time, it gave you peace and relief. You could both move on to the destiny you were supposed to have.
Whatever that future was.
