Getting involved with Mew was not going to do anything but cause heartache. Gulf should just take advantage of what the man was giving him and go with it.
If it led to some physical interaction, Gulf should just enjoy it while he had it. He could read whatever situation Mew put him in and keep himself safe, figure out exactly what everyone in the room wanted, and perform admirably.
Of course, that did not stop him from thinking about buying a mattress for Mew.
Saint decided to come along for Gulf's major shopping trip with Perth. He offered his opinion on the cuts and colors of the clothing that Perth had him try on, and he joked with Perth when Gulf was in the dressing room.
Gulf noticed that Perth and Saint got along well, which was strange because Saint normally did not like talking to people at all. They were like two peas in a pod when it came to their snarky, sarcastic sense of humor.
Gulf sometimes had problems breathing when they went on their imaginary scenarios of world domination and the ways that they would make the world a better place because he was laughing too hard at their foolishness.
The shopping trip took all afternoon, and Gulf was disappointed that Mew was not anywhere nearby to be seen. Perth mentioned that he was working with a new account, a fact that made Saint's ears perk up for some reason, but Gulf was just disappointed that he was not there with them.
Perth took them to his condo for dinner, and Gulf leaned up against his kitchen counter while he and Saint moved around the kitchen in a practiced dance. It was obvious that the two of them had spent a lot of time together; they were so comfortable with each other.
Gulf nibbled on a green apple as he chatted with them and asked Perth questions about his job. He told him how he was to act around certain accounts and how to respond if anyone ever asked him questions about his background. Perth encouraged him to lie about his background, even cautioning against admitting what state he was from. He told him to tell everyone that he was from America entirely, but a small town, not New York or anything.
Gulf had never been outside of Thailand, so he laughed a little at trying to fake as he had been somewhere else. Perth and Saint both were a little surprised at that declaration.
"Didn't you go on family vacations when you were a kid?" Saint asked, surprised.
"Nah," Gulf said. He did not bother explaining that foster kids were not allowed to leave the state they lived in without a judge's express approval. He had been kicked out of two foster homes because his family had wanted to go on vacation, so he had a few issues with people who wanted to leave the state for something like a vacation.
"What did your family do on vacation?" Perth asked him, surprised. His father had taken her everywhere, so he was surprised that other people had different experiences.
Saint rolled his eyes. "Not everyone grew up with a billionaire for a father, Perth," he said.
Gulf laughed. "That's true," he said, eating some of the food that Saint had turned his back on.
"What did your father do?" Perth asked Gulf.
"I don't know," Gulf said. He stuffed his mouth quickly so that he wouldn't have to answer any more questions.
Saint looked at Gulf speculatively. "You know, I've known you for a year and you never talk about your dad. Your mom, either. We've gone to eat at my parents' house once a month and we've never even brought up your parents."
"Nothing to bring up," Gulf said. "What's the recipe for this sauce? It doesn't taste like any other spaghetti sauce I've ever had."
"I put cinnamon and dark chocolate in it," Perth said. "Learnt when i was young"
"What's Mew's dad do?" Gulf asked casually.
"He's in the same business as my dad. That is how our parents met," Perth said glumly. "At least, that's how our parents got divorced and then remarried. To each other... I mean, my parents did not get remarried to each other, dad got married to Mew's mom, and mom just took the alimony and left, and I think Mew's dad got into another line of business."
That was awkward, Gulf thought. He was kind of sorry that he asked.
"So, Mew's mom sees you as her son then?"
"Oh yes, Mae and I get along famously. We didn't at first because we were both shy with each other, but then..." Perth blushed. "I can't tell that story to guys..."
"You might as well, you started it," Gulf said.
"I kind of panicked 'cause I got my period and I thought that I was dying because usually, only girls get that. But when I went to the doctor, everything seems to fall in place. Seems like I can give birth to a child too. And so I should go through this process. My mae, she just laughed and laughed, and then she told me how to take care of it and took me out for ice cream and told me not everyone is blessed to give birth like me."
Saint laughed. "That's still how you take care of your period," he said. "Ice cream always"
"I know," Perth grinned, and Saint grinned back at him.
