Bella went to her knees and applied cloth to dress Leon's wound. He acted like an animal and it frightened her more so than the time when he found her near Juliet's portrait. She shivered at the memory. Leon gripped her upper arm and all of a sudden he was yelling at her and finally knocked her down. On that night, it was the first time she could see Leon was still suffering from Juliet's death.

This was worse. She had never seen him so upset. Worse still, he had certainly wanted to cause himself harm. With trepidation and compassion, she tried to wrap his hand to stop the bleeding. He pushed her away, grunting as an animal, still. "You could bleed to death or let yourself be helped. You decide." She stated in a gentle voice. Bella was grateful she wanted to extend her mind in reading. Even if it was few medical books she came across. From the appearance, Leon didn't hurt his hand in which stitches were needed or worse. The prospect he had sliced open a vain.

Leon glanced downward as Bella's words rang though his ears. Why did she want to help him anyway? Bella caught Leon's hand which was leaned up against the cloth as Bella continued to cover his damaged hand. She realized it stung him. At some point, he didn't have the strength to resist her anymore. He glanced upward as he felt a tug as Bella finished securing the bandage. He felt himself grow tired. Perhaps she was right. The blood loss made him fatigued.

Bella witnessed Leon lowering his guard as he slept. Dear Juliet, she thought, is there a way to get through to him? Bella proceeded to study Leon closely. Naturally she hadn't the faddist idea on the time it happened to be but she felt exhausted nevertheless. Before she knew it she couldn't keep her eyes open. She was resting peacefully against Leon.

Leon arose and blinked his eyes as he took in his surroundings. What had occurred last night? He remembered he was intoxicated, his hand was still throbbing. His mask! He poked on the part of his face where it covered his grotesque face. It was still on him.

Leon glimpsed down and saw Bella in her slumber. He couldn't believe his girl tended to him. She had shown him kindness and heart. Before he knew it, he caressed Bella's smooth hair. Bella awoken to the feeling. She quickly ascend to the position she nearly had the night before. Leon had his unharmed hand on her shoulder briefly. Bella retreated with a gasp.

Bella observed Leon. Leon pushed himself up and he tried to show her he was amused by her attitude. "Do I scare you that much?" He asked, noticing how she had her forehead against her hand. She brought her hand down and found herself staring at him. "Last night? Yes." They looked away from one another.

Leon glanced around. In a soft-spoken voice, "I'm Sorry." He confessed. Bella knew she owed Leon an apology. She found her determination and looked at him. "I didn't mean to offend you with the work here." Bella found herself growing uncomfortable. He could see it. She continued on speaking, "I was just trying to thank you for what you did for my father." Bella glimpsed down, ashamed. It was she who had caused him pain.

Leon kept his eyes on Bella's. "I should have seen that." He announced. He had to glance up, trying to find the right words for Bella to understand why he had lost control in the first place. "But you see this place holds unbearable memories for me."

Bella realized that. The Conservatory was Juliet and his favorite place. With his revelation, Bella remorse only grew. She wanted to convey this was her regret. She never meant to cause him wrong or hurt him. "I will never set foot in here again." Bella browsed her eyes down. Her hair hid her face. Leon examined Bella intently. He understood. She was not the type of girl who enjoyed conflicting pain to others.

He ascended, reached out to stroke Bella's hair once more. Bella grew cautious as he did so. She gripped his hand firmly, putting a stop to him doing so. He had used the same hand she had assisted the night before. Leon brought his eyes down. Of course she wouldn't want to welcome his touch. To her, he was probably seen as only a monster. "Forgive me." He said.

Bella kept her eyes on his injury. "How is your hand?" She asked suddenly. This caused him to look at her. Leon moved his head closer to hers and brought that hand up to her face, stroking her cheek slightly with his fingertips. "Now I am the one in your debt." He whispered to her. Their eyes locked.

To be honest, Leon never received tenderness before Bella arrived to the Chateau. Before he knew it, Bella gripped his hand and observed it closely. It would mend well.

Leon watched as Bella worked diligently once again. It didn't matter what task she was given, she would be attentive.

What drew him to Bella? Was it her innocent soul or was it because she was not tainted by this cruel world? The only certain thing Leon knew was he had to reward Bella based on the fact she didn't judge him, she fell to sleep watching him.

A couple of hours went by when Leon asked for everything to be perfect for Bella for this evening. She would be his on this night. Helene would have lost their bet and would be married. As he stumbled upon Helene he reconfirmed the bet. Helene smiled sardonically as she stated the words, "If you love her, I'm happy for you." Leon smiled. No, he was not in love. He couldn't, wouldn't allow himself to be. He had learnt his lesson the hard way with Juliet's betrayal.

"Love is a witch's spell from which I awakened long ago" He confessed, believing everything he told his cousin to be true. He would deny he felt anything for Bella. No, she was just a tool in order for his cousin to marry the baron.
