After taking a few seconds to register what she was wearing, Samuel's eyes narrowed. "Why are you wearing Static's outfit?"
Virgo fidgeted. "Surprise?"
"You can't be..." Samuel stammered.
"She is. And she has been helping us observe you." Rockholm explained.
"Observing me?" Samuel swallowed.
Virgo replied nervously. "I didn't mean for you to find out."
Samuel's mouth opened as if to say something but a sob escaped instead. Samuel covered his mouth as another sob uncontrollably escaped.
Virgo grabbed his arm. "I-"
Samuel pulled away from her, needing to put distance between them both.
"Get me out of here." Samuel choked out, staggering out of the room.
Agent Matthews led Samuel back to the car. Samuel sat in the car as he began driving, his mind clouded with thoughts. He looked at his phone briefly as Virgo sent him a text. Samuel took one look at the text and turned his phone off, not wanting to think about Virgo. His heart felt torn, he just wanted to cry his heart out.
"Are you ok?" Agent Matthews asked, handing Samuel a pack of tissues.
"What do you think?" Samuel's voice hitching as he talked, blowing his nose into a tissue.
"You don't sound fine." Agent Matthews replied. "What's going on between you and Static?"
"Nothing apparently." Samuel admitted, the words stinging the back of his throat.
Agent Matthews raised his eyebrows. "Sure. Just making sure that this isn't going to change your mind on whether you want to join S.H.I.E.L.D. or not."
"Whatever." Samuel grumbled, taking another tissue and blowing his nose again.
The rest of the car ride was relatively silent except for the occasional nose blow or sob. Agent Matthews dropped Samuel back off at his place and drove off. Samuel unlocked his door and entered the room. Mick was sitting on the couch and looked up to greet Samuel, his eyes widening in alarm as he looked at Samuel's haggard and tear-stained face.
"Are you okay?" Mick got up and gently grabbed Samuel's shoulders.
Samuel pulled Mick into a hug, squeezing him tightly as tears rolled down his cheeks. "Do we have ice-cream?"
"Of course. You down to talk about what happened?" Mick whispered in an assuring voice as he patted Samuel's back.
"Maybe." Samuel pulled away, rubbing the back of his head.
"You go sit on the couch and I'll get you the ice-cream." Mick instructed which Samuel happily obliged.
Mick sat next to Samuel several moments later with a tub of ice-cream and two spoons. Samuel ate a spoonful, the sweetness briefly sweeping away the bitterness in his heart. Mick took a tiny bite and looked directly at Samuel, raising his eyebrows. The ice-cream tasted bitter as Samuel re-lived the memory.
"Virgo..." Samuel began, his voice hitching involuntarily as he tried to speak.
"Oh no." Mick's face morphed into a look of horror. "What happened?"
"Let's just say I don't think I can be with Virgo anymore." Samuel let out in one breath, the words he uttered causing him to let out a miserable sob.
Mick gently pulled Samuel into a comforting hug, letting Samuel cry on his shoulder. There was a knock on the door and Mick pulled away gingerly and made his way over to the door. He opened the door and let out a gasp. Samuel's heart dropped as Virgo entered the room.
"I'll leave you two to settle this, I'll be in my room if you need me." Mick gave Samuel a sympathetic look before entering his room.
Samuel couldn't get himself to look at Virgo's face but he could tell that her eyes were bloodshot. "What are you doing here?"
"To apologize." Virgo stepped closer to him, cupping his face gently with her hand.
"Can you give me so fucking space?" Samuel felt suddenly burst out.
Virgo pulled her hand away quickly. "If that's how you really feel."
"Of course, I feel that way." Samuel scowled, before adding quietly. "Liar."
"What did you just say?" Virgo's eyes narrowed.
"Fucking. LIAR!" Samuel spat out, louder this time.
Virgo drew her hand back on slapped Samuel across the face. "I thought I knew you better, Samuel. Goodbye."
Samuel grit his teeth in anger as he watched Virgo slam the door as she left. The stinging on his cheek felt like nothing compared to the aching in his heart. Why did he have to suddenly get so angry at Virgo? He could have just talked it out like a regular human being. Samuel felt his knees give way as he crashed onto the floor, bursting out in tears.
