It took around an hour before the paramedics got Kath into the ambulance with Kaia bundled up in a towel against Kath's chest. They let Kath deliver the afterbirth where she was before they even attempted to move her, DJ holding Kaia the entire time whilst they did that. Kath held Kaia close the whole journey to the hospital, admiring her daughter as DJ leaned over to dote on her too. Meeting their baby girl made every second of pain worth it. It made all the pain that came with Kath's operation worth it, just to see her baby girl's face. Kath was hesitant to even hand Kaia over to the doctors when they arrived at the hospital, it broke their hearts to hear her scream and cry as they took her away to run tests but it didn't take long for both Kath and Kaia to get the all-clear.
"She's so beautiful, Kath." Pamu admired, smiling down at Kaia as she slept against Kath's chest.
"Of course she is, she looks like her Mom," DJ said with a grin, kissing her temple, and Kath smiled over at him before looking back down at Kaia.
"You were in such a rush to get here, peanut." Kath breathed, caressing her cheek.
They looked over to the door as it opened, Karla letting herself in but she was being as quiet as possible.
"Hey, how's the little one doing?" Karla asked quietly.
"Sleeping." DJ cooed.
"She's had a big day today!" Karla said softly, kissing Kaia's head and they all smiled as she made small noises in her sleep, dreaming as she curled into her Mom some more. "Think of it like this... you woke up from your surgery and saw the world for the first time, this is the same thing for her." Karla said and Kath smiled a little wider, but it was clear to see that she was exhausted.
"You did so well, Kathryn." Pamu complimented.
"It was worth it... all of it."
"I told you it would be," Karla said with a smile, caressing Kaia's cheek for a moment. "The doctors want to keep you here overnight, but DJ is welcome to stay the night too - they just want to keep an eye on you and Kaia because of how the labor went," Karla said.
"We need to sort things out in my room when we can go home... it's a giant mess, she doesn't have anywhere to sleep right now - all her things are in the crib." Kath said and DJ chuckled, pecking her lips.
"Don't worry about that, don't worry about anything," DJ said, kissing her temple and he wrapped his arms around both of his girls. It was incredible that the tiny girl in Kath's arms was a part of both of them, that she was the same baby they'd seen and felt grow for the past eight and a half months.
"Have you told Dad and Marlann what happened?" Kath asked, looking to Karla and Pamu.
"Yeah, and they said they'll leave you to rest today and they'll see you tomorrow," Pamu said, but Kath's eyebrows creased when she saw the look on all of their faces, including DJ's - the smirk like they knew something.
"What's going on?" She questioned.
"Nothing, nothing... I think it's best if we leave you to get some rest." Karla said, kissing Kath's cheek and then DJ's, caressing Kaia's hair, and Pamu did the same before they both stood up.
"I'll send constant picture updates of Kaia." DJ teased.
"You better, I'm obsessed with her." Pamu cooed, kissing Kaia again before they said their final goodbyes, leaving Kath and DJ alone with Kaia.
"You should get some rest, baby girl, I know you're exhausted," DJ said, running his fingers through Kath's hair.
"Something's going on... there's no way Marlann, Dad, and Jordan wouldn't rush to be here to meet Kaia right away." Kath said, but her eyes slowly widened. "The accident-"
"NO!" DJ quickly shushed her, pecking her lips. "Baby girl, no, they're all fine! You really wanna know?" DJ asked and Kath nodded her head fast and DJ couldn't help but smile. "They're all gone to help us move into the house by tomorrow... they're moving all of our stuff over and Mom and Dad are getting their old furniture out of storage for us to use until we can order our own." DJ admitted and Kath smiled wide.
"Really?"
"Yeah, baby girl, we get to bring Kaia home to our very own house." DJ beamed, chuckling when Kath started to cry.
"Don't laugh at me, I'm tired and hormonal," Kath mumbled, but she couldn't help but laugh too, looking down at Kaia. "You hear that, peanut? We're all going to spend our first night in the new house together." Neither of them could stop smiling - Kaia was born and perfect. Everything seemed to finally be falling into place.
