BRIGHT
I close my eyes, filling my senses with the music from my earphones. Its melody, as if dancing with the breeze that caresses my face, lulls me to sleep. The noise from the field of students playing football now seems distant, softly fading away like my consciousness.
I shouldn't be here, in the football field, since I am required to be at the coliseum for the Career Convention. It just felt suffocating to be in there, it's like a reminder of the inevitable change that will befall in my life, not that I can't help it. As much as not being a fan of sudden transitions, I'm also not a fan High School, so maybe leaving it is not so bad after all.
Maybe it's the fact that the familiarity of what I have now to gradually change is what's scaring me. I mean, graduating in High School then moving to College is such a huge leap and I need to focus more on doing everything right unless I want to make a mess out of my life. It's like the world is forcing you to be more mature, to grow, and to be responsible; and that in itself is rather horrendous.
I wake up and it is already dark. I snatch my phone from my pocket and check the time.
07:49 PM.
The Career Convention must've ended at five, so going at the University Coliseum is pointless. I start to gather my things. I tidy my school uniform and dust it off, grab my backpack and start to walk down the grandstand still holding my phone with my hand.
I follow a crowd of students as they hurry their way to the front gate. I'm not familiar with this place since I don't go to school here, so it's convenient to follow students on their way out so I don't get lost.
I'm a high school student, and I'm only here at the University to attend the Career Convention which mostly was them marketing their school to us, senior students, to attract incoming freshmen. It's nothing more than propaganda. Every year they invite senior students from varying schools to attend this event and our school is one of the representatives and unfortunately for me, our class was chosen to go.
After lunch break, we were told to proceed to the coliseum for the afternoon program. I decided not to go and head towards the football field and enjoyed the view.
After I exit the school, I enter a café. I already missed my bus and the next one will arrive in the next thirty minutes, so staying at the café to pass time is a good idea, but ordering a drink before occupying a table is what isn't.
As the barista gave me my iced caramel macchiato, I realize that there wasn't any vacant table. I should've expected this though. The café is located a block away from the main gate, so in terms of location this is the most convenient place to rendezvous with friends and the usual hang out place of most students in the university.
Fortunately for me, I spot a vacant seat at the back corner of the café. A boy in beige colored uniform is occupying the table, I recognize the uniform and I'm pretty sure that he's a high school senior like I am so I guess sharing a table with him is my best choice.
I stride towards the far corner of the café, making a beeline at every table I walk past.
"May I sit here?" I politely ask. He lifts his head off his phone screen and stares at me, half of his face is illuminated by his phone so it kind of hard to read his expression. He is hesitant, though, I'm sure of it.
He blinks, still not giving me a reply. I take seat in front of him, his expression is confused. His forehead curls up and he starts to give me an accusing stare.
"I just need to sit here for a few minutes until the next bus arrives." I assure him. His expression seems to calm down and his lips form a natural pout. I find it cute.
