The dreadful homeroom hour finally passed. I thought it would've taken another two years for The Dick to shut up and get over himself. Jeez, someone with such a nasally voice really shouldn't be allowed to talk for such a long period of time, or become a teacher, period. Once in the hallways, I waved hello to friends I didn't see over summer break, and walked to my locker. The combination was the easiest anyone could ever get. Seriously. It was 01-02-03. My locker number being #456. What were the odds?
A sudden caveman screech sounded behind me and my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach.
Oh no. Uh oh. I stood stock still awaiting my fate. A sudden impact caused me and whoever it was to crash to the floor. I winced in pain, cracking my eyes open. Correction: not whoever, but THEY. As I scrambled to get up, I glared at my two idiotic twin best friends. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love them to death, but sometimes I could really strangle them. Like now, for instance.
Mav was average for a guy, height wise. He was 5 foot and 11 inches exactly. No more, no less. He was quite handsome. He had light blue-grey eyes, with a sharp jawline and eyebrows. His lips were a bit thin, but his skin was always perfectly tanned all year round. A lot of lady's were after him. It was quite amusing to see all the girls glaring at me whenever he was solely with me, without his sister with us. Its embarrassing to admit that I may have had a slight crush on him when we were younger. I've known this guy since we were in third grade. He introduced me to his sister the next day, Ruby.
Ruby was 5 foot 7 inches, a whole 2 inches taller then me. It wasn't fair. She looked like a super model while as I looked like an absolute midget. When I met her for the first time in third grade, the first thing she did was throw a tantrum because Mav had met me first, then she pulled me away from him and was asking for my opinion on how to get back at him. Those two were always having prank wars. We were instantly best friends and haven't separated since then. She had the same exact features as Mav, except with a softer face, and more arched eyebrows. She looked like an absolute goddess all the time. I bet she could even wear a trash bag to prom and everybody would still drool over them.
I forgot to mention that my best friends were popular, but they never really hung out with anyone besides me. Although Mav would sometimes hang out with his football buddies, and Ruby would hang out with other girls to shop, because lord knows I hated shopping. When they were off with other people, I was alone and on my own.
As I was thinking about them and the ridiculousness of how we met, I hadn't known that I started to stare off into space in my own little world. Both the twins were staring at me when I finally snapped out of my haze.
Mav looked at me, then at his sister Ruby. "She looks to be in some sort of 'daze'" he piped up, cackling to himself like he was the funniest guy ever. Ruby smiled and punched him in the arm lightly, while he pouted at her for hitting him. I made a sour face at them, and turned back to my locker, grabbing my stuff. It was oddly quiet behind me and I started to get a bit nervous.
Peeking behind me, I was slapped in the face with both the twins puppy dog eyes.
"Please please pleaseeee don't be mad at us Daze, we were just so excited to see you again after our trip to Italy for the whole summer. We didn't even get to see you even once, and we missed your gorgeous face" they begged in unison. I rolled my eyes and snorted at them. A real big pain in my ass, they are.
"Fine, you idiots. Come here and give me a proper hug, will you but n- Oof!" I was lifted up in the most crushing of hugs. "C-c-ant-t b-r-r-eat-th!!" They loosened their hold but didn't let go. They started jumping and squealing and moving their mouths a million miles an hour, overlapping each other trying to both tell me about their trip at the same time. They started to talk louder and louder, trying to be heard over one another. The only sound that cut them off was the shrill bell telling us that we were all late.
I groaned and disentangled myself from them. I snatched my stuff from my locker and shot them daggers while walking in the next direction of my class. They smiled sheepishly at me while waving. Why weren't they moving? Didn't they have a class to go to too? Just as I thought that, it dawned upon them. Their faces were undescribable as I turned around and snickered to myself walking away.
I opened the door to my next class, chemistry, and apologized profusely to the teacher. Mrs. Cheel wasn't having any of it, and gave me a detention. I slinked my way to my seat, another one in the back. At least one thing was going right in the god awful class. I sat down and slouched. I hated science with a burning passion. I was only taking it so I could get a scholarship. To what school, I wasn't quite sure yet.
I sighed and looked up at the ceiling. If I was gonna be late to every class, I'd have detentions for the rest of the week, I thought sourly glaring back down at the red slip Mrs. Stick-Up-Her-Butt had given me. I was so gonna kill those two, prison would be worth it.
I quietly took my phone out from behind my binder, made sure Mrs. SUHB wasn't paying anymore attention to me, and quickly texted mom.
D: "Sorry Mom, I got a 30 min detention for being late to 2nd period bc of Mav & Ruby. You know how they get. But I'll see you after that. Text me if you need me to get anything after school. Love you!"
I put my phone away and stared ahead at the white board, not recognizing anything she had written down. Well damn. Looked like my last year was going to be a long one, and it was only second period. I internally groaned.
For the rest of the period I fought off the urge to sleep. It was a tireless battle. You'd think getting tackled to the ground and almost suffocating to death would've woken me up just a tiny bit. Note the sarcasm.
I glared at my desk. Maybe I should just drop out.
