CHAPTER 1

(10 years later when the girl is 25 and the guy 26)

Belle rushed down the crowded street, her coat flapping in along in the wind and rush. She had less than 10 minutes to get to Architectural Designs Co. It was a gusty, cold November day in New York, New York and Belle Klein was rushing to get to work. She couldn’t catch any cabs and the streets were crowded with the typical New York crowds. “Great,” she grumbled under her breath.

Belle carried her art portfolio and parts of her sketches were sticking out in wild arrays. Her coffee was sloshing around in the cup in her other hand. She juggled her purse on her arm, continuously having to shove it behind her to get through the crowds. Just as her portfolio started to slip, Belle ran head first into a random person. She flew back, portfolio flying along with her coffee. People dodged the collision and kept walking by not offering any help.

Belle mumbled a sorry to whomever she had run into as she frantically tried to gather her sketches. “That coffee sure smells great,” a deep, masculine voice sounded from in front of her. Belle glanced up, shielding her eyes from the sun. A tall, cleanly dressed gentleman stood in front of her, shoving papers back into his black, leather briefcase. His crisp, clean suit looked expensive. Almost Calvin Klein/ Giorgio Armani expensive. His deep, blue tie made his crisp, baby-blue eyes stand out against his shaggy, dark brown hair. Belle blushed heavily, and quickly dropped her gaze back to her portfolio.

The gentleman gave her a hand to help her up off the dirty sidewalk. “Thanks” Belle said wiping her hands off onto her coat. “No problem” the gentleman replied, grinning. Belle and the man stood there for a while in silence until the man’s phone began to ring. He glanced at it, a look of shock and horror flooded his face. “I’m really sorry but I have to go. It was nice running into you,” he said before running off in the direction of where he was first going.

Belle sighed, and started to run. Her boss surely wouldn’t take this excuse.

                                                               ---------

Daniel Moore rushed to the glass doors of Doo Peas Corp. where he worked. He had a seat in the New York senate. A big honor according to his foster father, the governor of New York. Pete, the doorman held the doors open as Daniel flew in and past the receptionist, Claire. “Good morning Mr. Moore” they both said in unison. Daniel nodded a hello and ran into the elevator just as it was closing. He glanced at the clock hanging on the side of the elevator. Shoot, he was ten minutes late. He was silently cursing himself, but then remembered why he was late. That cute, petite girl he had run into on the streets. Her stature told she was strong but her eyes had told him she had been through a lot. He liked her without even honestly knowing her. He shook his head as he walked off the elevator and into his meeting. That is the last thing I need to be worrying about, he thought as he sat down and quietly opened his briefcase.

The first thing he saw did not belong to him. It was a partial sketch of a building he had never seen before. It must have been that girl’s. Daniel smiled briefly and stared at the sketch. She must be really important, he thought, I have got to meet her again.

All of a sudden, the door to the meeting room flew open and off its hinges. The glass of the floor-to-ceiling windows shattered. Everyone in the room screamed and yelled, covering their heads. The building seemed to be shaking violently. A large beast with long fur and jet black horns stood in the doorway. “DANIEL MOORE! You are to forget all about the girl. If you don’t forget by the next full moon, both of you will be struck down to the pits of Hell. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!” the beast roared before running towards the window and jumping out. The building automatically stopped shaking as if it someone had flipped a switch on and then off. Everybody gawked at Daniel. Daniel himself was shocked and rattled. The girl? Maybe I shouldn’t try to talk to her, he thought running out of the meeting. But hey, I’m open to a little adventure.

As soon as he walked out of Doo Peas, Daniel came to an abrupt halt. One thing he noticed were the hazy outlines of people in styles of clothing he’d only seen in history books or museums. He backed up slightly as one of a woman strutted past with a hoop skirt and strange umbrella. Daniel looked around, scared for himself.

Then walking down the other side of the road on the sidewalk was the girl he had run into not too long ago. Daniel took off across the street, nearly dodging a taxi. He slid in front of her, grabbing her arm. “Can I speak to you?” Daniel asked, guiding her into the Starbucks right there. “Hi, I’m Daniel. I think we’ll be getting to know each other for a while.”

------

Belle didn’t know what to do but follow him into the Starbucks. He dragged her to a booth and sat her down. He sat across from her and called for a waitress. “So, what’s your name?” the guy asked. “Belle. Belle Klein.” she replied with alarm. “That’s a pretty name. That stands for beautiful.” he said with mock amusement. Belle was shaking from the sudden attention from such a good-looking guy. “Oh, I did tell you my name was Daniel, right? Daniel Moore” the guy, Daniel, grinned. His smile was radiant. But it was gone as quick as it came, and a grimace in its place. “Can you see them?” Belle froze, was he asking her about the spirits? “Y-Yes. Can you?” Belle asked. Daniel nodded, “But it only just started today. Did you always see them?” “Actually yes. Ever since I was born. They don’t bother me; they’re just lost and keep doing what they did when they were alive still,” Belle laughed, “Are you scared of them?” Daniel scoffed, “No!” Clearly he was, his voice sounded shaky.

“Are you just here to interrogate me about the spirits?” Belle asked sipping on the coffee the waitress had just set on the table. “No, actually I wanted to get your name and talk to you more.” Daniel said, his eyes scanning over Belle. Belle smiled, “Where to begin.”

PS: Okay, so Belle sounds a little demented here. I wanted her to grin evily, but I dun't want Belle all evil and shiz. She's supposed to be quiet and keep to herself but I didn't really make her show that when she talks to Daniel. I have the reason for that in the next chapter which i am currently working on.  The video in the sidebar fits this story perfectly because Daniel wants to talk to Belle again even though he was warned not to. Ahh love; its so mushy gushy :3 See ya later Beasts!
