Something about today made me feel hope. It was a rare feeling I had, and I was going to treasure it.
I was standing calmly, my hands grasping each other behind my back as I stood as tall as I could. I hoped that I looked calm too anybody who came into the sitting room I was standing in. I was hoping I got called in for good news. I’ve been waiting for a callback for what seems like forever.
I looked at the round desk, and the secretary behind it. She kept glancing at me as if I was going to steal something. I looked around, just to see if there actually was something worth stealing. I saw a stack of magazines on the table. No, that wouldn’t do. A fake plant sitting in the corner. Nope. A couple of crappy looking chairs? Hell no.
Not that I would actually steal anything, but the temptation was too great whenever the woman glanced at me with her beady little eyes. It was like a challenge. I heard the door beside the round desk click open, and I immediately snapped my attention too it. I saw a somewhat tall man wearing a sharp suit walk out with papers in his hand, he looked up through his spectacles towards me. “Are you Alistair Sheppard?’
“Yes, sir.” I answered giving him a small grin. He waved me over. “Please come in.” I unclasped my hands and let them fall to my sides as I walked over to the man. He held out his hand, and I shook it. “Come inside.” He repeated and I followed him into his office. I walked in behind him, and looked around seeing a few diplomas and quite a few bookshelves with God knows what on them, I didn’t want to focus on that, otherwise I would be here all day just observing his entire office. The man sat behind his desk, in a large computer chair. He motioned me to sit on the leather chair in front of the desk. I sat down and kept my back straight, and my hands comfortably on my lap.
I hoped it left some sort of impression. He started off with asking a few mandatory questions like; What is your full name? Your age? etc.
He paused from his long list of questions. I had answered them all with an easy going voice and what I hoped to be positive sounding. “It says here on your application and on your last interview that you are bisexual?” I nodded, “Yes I am.” He nodded approvingly and I gave a mental sigh in relief. “And you said that you like play the guitar and sing as your recreational activities?”
“Yes I do. I also do a bit of writing and blogging as well.”
“Ah, yes it says that right here.” He pointed at the paper more for himself than for me. I waited patiently for what I hoped was the conclusion too all these questions.
“Yes, I think you will do perfectly there.” He mumbled, he looked back up too me. “Do you remember the interview you had with the people that do the Warped Tour every summer?”
I nodded slowly. Of course I remember, it was one of the most nerve wracking interviews I had. I remember sitting in a room full of people waiting too interviewed, and then there was me sitting there with my best poker face on, so I didn’t completely freak out that I was actually going to be interviewed by the people who make the Warped Tour happen.
“Well out of all the applicants, they only chose two people, you and one other person. They said that you met the qualifications perfectly. That you had a great personality and hoped that you accept the job. Thats why I called you in today. I’m the person that gives out the news too people who have gotten a callback on the interviews.” I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face.
He looked at me and gave some sort of sheepish grin. “Oh I forgot to mention, my name is Michael Miles. Sorry about that, bad habit of mine.”
“Its alright. So I got the job with Warped Tour? What do I do next?”
He flipped through some pages, and then sat back as if trying to figure out where he put the thing. Whatever said thing was.
“Where did I put that thing?” He mumbled to himself, which confirmed my theory and I held back a chortle of laughter that tried to force its way too the back of my throat. “Ah, here it is.” He had finished rummaging through his desk, and pulled out a duotang that was completely Warped Tour themed. He handed it over to me. I took a quick glance at the inside of it, and turned my attention back too Michael. “If you accept, I’m going to call them and let them know. Which shortly after you’re going to be called by your new supervisor and he’ll give you all the details. But until then, they would like you too go over the information in that duotang, so you can get a head start on what to expect on the job.”
“Oh, I definitely accept. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time.” I gave him a brilliant smile. He returned one. “Good. I’ll let them know immediately.” He got up, and I followed suit. I held out my hand, and he gave it a hard shake. “Thank you very much, Mr. Miles.”
“You're very welcome, Mr. Sheppard.” We said our goodbyes, and I left. I closed the door behind me, as he went to his phone. I noticed the lady at the front desk was gone. I went and grabbed one of the magazines and walked out the door, grinning from ear to ear.
I walked down the street the grin still on my face. Warped Tour, huh? I felt jittery and excited. I opened the binding in front of me, I saw the random magazine I took from ConnectCareer, and let out a violent snort without meaning to which ascended into laughter. It was just to funny and way to easy. I moved the magazine away and glanced at the papers that where under it.
Rules and Regulations. It read. I closed it quickly and decided I would read it when I got too Blakes house.
I put my headphones in, and hooked them too my phone. Happy by Pharrell Williams came on. I took that as a sign, and immediately started dancing down the street towards my car. I was holding on carefully too my reading material as I waved my arms around, and strutted with a kick too my step in tune with my music. I started clapping my hands along with clapping in the background noise of the song, and I swear I scared an old woman who was walking by me.
When I got too my car, I unlocked it, shaking my hips. I set my Warped Tour reading onto the other side of the car, and continued to dance. I saw that I was attracted some attention so I quickly maneuvered my way over to the drivers side of my 2013 Dodge Charger. Getting in, I pulled my headphones out, still grinning like an idiot, that I was sure of and started the car, pulling out into the busy streets of Washington DC.

“I’m home!” I called out as I walked into my best friends home. “Just come on in why don’t you!” I heard laughter come from down the hall.“Got that right, I’ll come in whenever I feel like it.” I retorted. I saw Blake look down the hall at me. “How’d it go, anyway?” She asked. “What was it they wanted?”
“I got a job.” I beamed, clapping my hands together. She ran down the hall towards me. “Really?” She looked at me excitedly. “Yep.” popping it at the end. She gave me a hug and I wrapped my arms around her, swinging her around until we were dizzy with laughter.
“So, where are you working?” She asked after I set her down.
I grinned and answered.
“Warped Tour.”
