"..and thank you for spending your time listening to my presentation today," I ended with a courteous smile.

Well, that did go better than expected.

"Hey. Aren't you that girl that we talked to on the scooter?" a sudden voice asked me. Or at least, I think it was me.

Precariously, I turned around to see the disheveled black haired boy staring at me.

"Uh, yeah. I am," I said slowly. "Did you see my presentation?"

"Saw it allllll, my friend. You did a really impressive job, too. Keep up the confidence, and you'll be able to get into SFIT and refine your invention."

"Thanks. I'm really anxious, man. You competing?"

"Nah. I'm actually a student here..."

Huh? A student?? He must be telling the truth. I mean, look at his face. There was no trace of hesitation.
I felt really stupid talking to a genius teen kid.

"Oh. Wow. When did you get in?" I inquired.

"Last year. This competition actually got me in. So you're talking to an actual recipient of the award--"

"--but you aren't bragging, are you, Hiro?"

A lanky, but built, half Japanese/Caucasian man (late teens?) interjected in "Hiro's" (I'm assuming) and my conversation. He had a San Fransokyo cap on his ebony hair, with a brown button-up sweater underneath a green blazer. Wow..

My first thought: Well hot daaaamn.

My second thought: Well, why would he ever like me? Wait, does this mean I already like him? Noonononono.

I guess I caught myself in mid-mumble because the tall dude was staring at me with a single eyebrow raised. It's a good thing none of my words were audible.

To be courteous, I stuck my hand out for a introduction and handshake.

"Hi. I'm Violet Suzuki. You probably heard my name over the COMM system, though."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Violet. I'm Tadashi Hamada, also a student at SFIT. The little kid--"

"--Okay. I'm not a little kid, I am a well-developed adolescent. There's a difference," The smaller of the two boys interrupted.

"--you were talking to is, as you may know, Hiro Hamada. My lil' brother."

I could see Tadashi give a little back-kick to Hiro's butt, signaling him to 'shut up'.

I chuckled. "I see you guys have a good relationship with each other."

"One of the best around," Hiro answered whilst punching Tadashi in the ribs, earning an 'yeesh' from him.

Suddenly, the COMM rang in.

"To all competitors: please report to the stage for the awards ceremony. It will be starting in 7 minutes. Thank you."

"Well, that's my cue. Peace out guys."

"Yeah, peace, Violet!!"

"Bye! Good luck!"

Since I was kind of late, the announcer was wrapping up her little speech. All I heard was: "We shall be going from runner ups to 1st place".

I sat down on the chairs provided. The first two rows of seats were reserved for competitors, and the rest for spectators. My teeth felt like they were chattering--not because of nervousness, but because the building was kind of cold. Haha.
