This is a prompt I'm filling for facelesswonder. Thanks so much for the prompts and I'm going to do the rest of them as soon as possible. I hope you like this.
Ding. The kitchen timer sounded pulling Bethany's attention from unwrapping and wrapping the loose thread hanging from the sleeve of her hoodie around her pointer finger. She took a deep breath before pushing herself up off of the bathroom floor. Taking the few steps toward the counter she felt her stomach churn and despite how sick she'd been the past two days she knew this was for a different reason.
Bethany took in her disheveled appearance through the mirror. Her hair was up in a messy bun, her face more pale than the white counter top before her. Taking another deep breath she reached down and picked up the plastic stick, turning it over quickly before she could hesitate anymore.
"Crap." She breathed out pressing the palm of her hand to her forehead. "Crap, crap, crap."
Her heart did somersaults as she continued to stare at the words flashing on the tiny screen. Pregnant.
A knock on the bathroom door startles Bethany causing her to jump slightly. She quickly shoves the test into her hoodie pocket and put the timer away in a random drawer. She turns on her heel and opens the bathroom door.
"Hey, still not feeling any better?" Derek asks placing his hands on her shoulders.
She shook her head in response before pushing past him into their shared bedroom. She could feel him staring at her from across the room, but she couldn't look up to meet his gaze. Even though Bethany could always hide her real emotions with a smile, Derek was the only one to ever see right through it.
"Do you need me to get you anything?" He asks as he makes his way towards her, sitting next to her on the end of the bed. "By the way I am thoroughly washing my hoodie once you're done wearing it. No way am I getting the flu."
Bethany rolls her eyes, he had absolutely nothing to worry about. Well, he had plently to worry about, but getting the flu wasn't one of those things. She sighs deeply trying to figure out how to tell her boyfried of 3 years that she's pregnant.
Having kids with Derek was always something that she wanted and something that he had expressed wanting as well, just not for a few more years. That was the plan at least. Live together for a little while, get married, and then children.
Moving in with Derek was huge step because she had never lived with anyone other than her parents and sister before. When she left home at 19 she moved into an apartment by herself. Granted Derek spent most nights with her or her with him anyway, but still buying a house together after only 2 years of dating was a little fast.
"Hey, are you seriously okay? Do you need to go to the doctor again?" Derek inquires his words carrying a more worried tone.
"I actually do need to see a doctor." She finally answers still not looking up at him.
"Well okay. We won't be able to get an appointment at the office right now because it's nearly 8 pm, but we can try for first thing tomorrow morning." He stands up from the bed walking towards their bedside table reaching for the phone.
"No, I don't need to see that doctor." Bethany calls out after him standing up as well.
"Do you need to go to the hospital?" His eyebrows are knitted together as he puts the phone back down.
"No…I…" She shook her head trying to fight back the tears that were threatening to spill over. What if he doesn't want this right now? She didn't even know if she wanted this right now. Having a family with Derek was one of her biggest dreams, but she was barely 22 and even though they had taken huge steps in their relationship already this was a leap ahead of all of those things.
