Just so no one is confused, this story has absolutely nothing to do with the previous part. They are not related at all. The only thing they have in common is Bethany and Derek.
Bethany can hear the party before she's even at the front door of the beautiful beach restaurant. She feels a chill run up her partially exposed back as she reaches to open up the door, she tells herself it's from the cool ocean breeze and not because of how nervous she is to be there.
"Bethany, I'm so glad you could come." She's pulled into a nearly bone crushing hug the moment she steps over the threshold.
"Laura, it's so good to see you again." Bethany replies trying desperately to breathe. "Congratulations."
"Oh thank you so much." Laura smiles at the shorter girl after letting her out of the embrace. "I was kind of worried that you wouldn't come. I mean none of us have spoken to you in like 4 months."
"I know. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be M.I.A, I've just been so busy." Bethany explains trying to keep her attention on the older woman in front of her instead of searching the crowd for the person she was most nervous to see again. "You know I wouldn't miss your engagement party though."
"Well like I said, I'm glad you could make it. Also congratulations on everything for you too. When does that album come out?"
"Not until the summer. Hopefully." She tells her with genuine enthusiasm.
"Babe, I'm kind of drowning in people and you know how I hate small talk. Save me." A tall brunet man that Bethany vaguely remembers meeting a few times intejects, wrapping an arm around Laura's shoulder.
"Oh honey please don't be antisocial." The blonde woman pleads jokingly smiling up at her fiancé. "Bethany, you remember my fiancé, Brian right?"
"Of course. It's lovely to see you again, Brian. Congratulations." Bethany half lies as she shakes Brian's outstretched hand.
"Well, Bethany I don't want to keep you from mingling, I know there are plenty of people here who want to catch up with you." Laura remarks with a smile before giving her another hug. "Have fun, eat lots of food, dance."
Bethany nods watching the couple disappear into the crowd. She glances around the room trying to find at least one person she knew. She was sure that most of the Dancing With The Stars crew would be there, Laura is everyone's favorite producer despite her sometimes too perky attitude for 8 am.
Finally spotting someone she recognizes Bethany smiles widely before approaching the taller girl. "Sadie Carroway, is that you?"
The younger girl whips around grinning at Bethany and pulling her into a hug. "Oh my gosh, Beth. I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too." She admits still holding on to her friend tightly. "I wasn't expecting you to be here. Why didn't you tell me you were in town?"
"I wasn't going to come because it's still the school year, but Mark practically begged me." Sadies explains. "My flight got here like 3 hours ago. I was going to call you earlier but I was running late getting ready."
"How long are you in town for?"
"Just until Sunday, but we can do something tomorrow." Sadie's smile grew as she stares behind Bethany. "You're finally here. I should've known you two would be late."
Bethany turns around to see Mark and Derek walking towards them. "Oh shut up." Mark tells his former partner before pulling her into a hug.
"Well, if it isn't Ms. Mota." Derek smirks at her his eyes sparkling even in the dimly lit room.
