Chapter 17

Yesterday was perfect, just what I needed to get me out of the mood. It's currently Christmas Eve and my parents are hosting their annual Christmas Dinner, inviting everyone on our street, including Niall's family.

"Can you hand me the sugar?" mom says while throwing different ingredients into a bowl.

"Yah, sure," I say and hand her the sugar.

I love this time of the year, it's just so, I don't know, happy I guess. I've always helped my mom in the kitchen with the Christmas dinner, and after we usually go to the midnight mass at church. It's only an hour before the dinner starts, so I should start getting ready. I feel weird about this time though, maybe because Niall's coming, probably.

I step into the shower and run the razor over my legs quickly and add a body scrub scented like mint, and then rinse off. I blow dry my hair rather fast and head over to my closet to pick out my outfit. While I was at the mall yesterday, I got a cute maroon pleated dress with a zipper back and lace details. Since it was more of a casual party, I decided to wear my black Converse that were 1 size to small from last year to go with my dress.

After I put on my outfit, it was time to do my hair and makeup. I decide to curl my hair lightly and pin it back with a black bow. For my makeup, I wanted to make more of a statement. I laugh at myself as I think of that, sounding like one of those big ego makeup artists. I add some eyeliner, a nude eyeshadow, mascara, concealer, and lipgloss. I also add my dangly diamond earrings with a matching necklace I got from my grandma last year.

"Well you look nice," Kayla compliments me as I trot down the stairs.

"Thanks, so do you!" I tell her, complimenting her on her flats.

Kayla and I help set up the table as more guests arrive, greeting us with pies, cookies and other items for the dinner.

"Do you think this would look nice?" I ask Kayla as I gesture to the crystal glasses.

"Yah, I like those," she says and folds the napkins.

After that, we eat some of the finger foods and wait for Nina, Makenna and Niall to arrive. The younger kids are over in the living room watching Elf and drinking apple cider. Soon enough, Nina and Makenna arrive.

"Oh my god, you look so pretty!" Makenna says while taking in my outfit,

"Thanks, I like your necklace!" I say back smiling.

Nina heads over to the kitchen with her mom's famous mac and cheese and sets it down on the island.

All four of us girls chat about maybe attending a concert during the summer, but I don't say anything since I'll be in New York...

The doorbell rings and my eye catches Niall. He's wearing a nice blue flannel and jeans along with his white Converse. His hair is styled back in a quiff and he wears a big smile.

"Hi Kadence," he laughs as I hug him.

"Hi Niall," I say and guide him to where the rest of the group.

I introduce Kayla to Niall and they seem to be getting along and then that's where Makenna pulls me to the back of the room.

"Woah, slow down!" I say and trip over my shoes.

"Sorry, it's just that, you kinda promised me that Niall would go on a date with me," Makenna explains. oh yeah.

"Oh," I say.

"Please Kadence!!! Please!!!! For your best friend!!!" She says with a horrible puppy dog impression.

"I'll see what I can do," I sigh and we head back to the group. Soon enough, it's time to eat.
