I instantly feel refreshed when I wake up on the first day of break. My fuzzy flannel pants cling to my legs as I carry myself out of my room go get dressed. Dad and Mom told that we were going somewhere, and they usually never say this until something important happens, but I'm sure it's a good thing.
I start with my hair and brush it out, letting it fall in small waves. I head over to my closet to see what to wear, I know it has to be something warm because it snowed over the weekend, leaving a small amount of ice outside.
I decide on skinny jeans, my plaid flannel with a tank top, and my Converse. I can't forget my hat, scarf and jacket.
"Are you sure we should bring this up today, I mean shouldn't we tell her later?" I hear my mom whispering to my dad. What are they talking about?
"No, Sarah, she needs to know. She has to have time to get herself together. You saw how she was when she found out that Bree passed," he replies with his frown lines indenting.
Why are they bringing up Bree, my cousin who apparently died a few years ago? This news is gonna be bad. I interrupt their conversation on purpose and step in between them.
"Good morning," I chirp, trying to see what was happening.
"Good morning Kadence, we're about to go get some breakfast," Dad smiles, but it fades away quickly.
"Oh, and remember, we I have that dinner for my work, I'm taking Dad with me," my mom says and grabs her coat. "Let's go get something to eat,"
We end up going to IHOP and being sat in a small booth at the end of the room. The heat from my hot chocolate warms my hands.
"Hello, I'm Joshua, I'm your sever today, anyone ready to order?" Joshua proudly says, he looks to be about 23.
"Yah, I'll have the Ham and Cheese omelette, with hash browns," I smile.
After Joshua leaves and everyone orders, my parents turn more serious.
"Okay, Kadence, we need to talk to you about something," my mom begins. I gulp.
"Okay, it's important isn't it?" I say in a worried tone while they nod their heads yes.
"In New York, on my business trip I was an offered a new position." How could this be bad news like I was thinking, this is great!
"That's great Dad!" I exclaim and take a sip of hot chocolate.
"Well, your father and I have agreed for him to take it-"
"That's great, is this for celebration today?" I ask my curiosity growing more.
"Kadence, don't interrupt please," my mom sighs.
"The thing is, the position is in New York," my dad says and shrugs.
"So, in the Spring sometime, we'll be moving," Mom says taking my hand in hers.
Wait, moving. No, this can't be happening, I've been in Oregon my whole life, and plan to stay here for college! I don't want to move across the country! I feel the tears in the back of my eyes, trying to escape, but I won't let them. My mouth hangs open and I can't seem to say anything....
"Moving," I croak, barely a whisper.
"Yes dear," my mom says. "I know this is probably a lot to take in, we're sorry, but this opportunity is very important,"
"You could've at least told me before you made the decision," I snap. "Plus, you probably think I'm going to be weak about this-"
"Honey, we never said that," my dad interrupts me.
