Titus asked me out a month ago, and since then we've been on a few dates. They weren't super extravagant or anything, just simple dates like going for a walk or having dinner on the beach. I remember him bringing a candle one time to "set the mood," but the candle didn't light since it was all wet. But it was still very thoughtful of him, and it showed that he really was trying to be romantic, even though he was failing miserably.
If anything, these dates ended up being very awkward for the both of us. Its not like I was expecting our relationship to start off with smooth sailing, but I kind of hoped that at least one of us would finally figure it out and everything else would naturally fall into place.
But alas, love takes time and lots of work. It may not have been immediate, but it ended up being inevitable for the both of us.
As time went on, since nobody was there to cut or dye it, my hair started to get longer and its natural colors were finally starting to show. For most of my life, I had never known that this was what color my hair truly was. When I saw those colors for the first time I thought it was absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately, due to how many times my hair had to be altered over the past 18 years, it suffered damages beyond repair.
Instead of growing up, like I thought it was supposed to, it grew down towards my shoulders. At first, this bothered me, but when I confronted Titus about my concerns, he proceeded to run his fingers through my hair, smiling as he did so.
"Just because your hair isn't growing in the right direction doesn't make you any less beautiful," he said. "Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with it. It's perfect just the way it is."
His compliments always made me feel better about myself, and he always seemed to know how to make me smile.
There were a few things that strangely didn't change right away. Just like he did before we started dating, he would sometimes hide under the docks and eavesdrop on me playing my violin or singing different songs to myself. I don't know why he wouldn't just come up and listen to me on the beach, but at the time I think he was just scared he would distract me or something like that.
However, one day, I found out why.
------
I woke up one morning to a knock on my door. I jumped.
"Titus?" I asked. No answer. I cautiously crept over to the door and slowly opened it. "Hello?"
There was a neatly wrapped box at my feet with a note addressed to me on top. I picked up the envelope, opened it, and slowly began to read the letter aloud.
"Don't go down to the beach today. I have something special planned for us this evening. No peeking! I'll come get you around 7. Anyways, I got you something special to wear this time. I think it'll look good on you. :) I'm sorry I suck at writing letters. See you later!"
I chuckled at his note and proceeded to open the box. I gasped and dropped the lid on the floor when I saw the beautiful pale blue dress that was inside. The sleeves were cold-shouldered and see through, but I didn't mind. I hung it up to smooth the wrinkles out and waited until about 6 o'clock to put it on.
I spun around in the mirror with a smile on my face, making sure to get a good look at it from every angle. The dress was just long enough to reach my knees. He was right. It did look good on me.
I had just enough time to do my hair a bit before I heard a knock on my door for the second time that day. I cleared my throat.
"Who is it?" I asked sweetly.
