NATALIE'S POV
“Natalie?” Juliana said poking my arm.
“Huh?”
“You zoned out.” She said looking concerned.
“Yeah I…. umm....” It was too much too take. I couldn’t understand what just happened. Mr. Miller dropped a bomb on me and Juliana just made it worse.
“I think we’re running late to class, let’s go.” I got up from my seat. She just stared at me with an expression that made me think I was an alien from outer space.
“What?” I said trying to sound miffed.
She raised an eyebrow at me, “Are sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine! Can we go now?” I said motioning towards the door, desperate to get to class.
“Alright, if you say so.” She said as she reluctantly got up and slung her pack on her shoulder.
We scooted towards our classrooms and somewhere in that process I lost track of her. Anyways, that didn’t matter anymore because I was in a hurry to get to class.
Once I was done with the remaining lessons of the day I headed to my room. I really hadn’t payed much attention in math and science, I couldn’t concentrate.
The math teacher Mr. Preston was nice, but what he was teaching was very basic. Same was the case with science, I wasn’t even trying but I could tell that the coursework was simple as ABC.
I reached my room, I was exhausted and mentally drained. I freshened up and changed into my pajamas. I’d already had a decent meal in the cafeteria in between classes, so I wasn’t hungry.
I sank deep into my bed, pulling the covers over me. I cleared my thoughts and let the darkness consume me and drifted off to sleep.

It was a dusky evening; I was enjoying the view from the terrace of the mansion my parents had rented for the holidays in Puerto Rico. I was sitting in a fancy chair, facing my parents who were sipping tea. All, the three of us did was watch the sun set slowly, darkness engulfing the vicinity of the mansion.
Suddenly the beautiful, still evening air was filled with gunshots and screams. My mother’s eyes widened with fear and uncertainty as she covered her ears. A wave of panic washed over my father’s face, but he quickly regained his usual calmness.
“To the panic room. Go!” He said standing up now, urging my mother to move.
My mother overcame the shock and got up from her seat urgently.
“Natalie sweetie get up! Let’s go.” She exclaimed, I was paralyzed with fear, unable to move.
She grabbed my wrist and my father sheltered the both of us as we ran to the panic room, stumbling over.
