This novel is written under the themes of mystery, teen-fiction, comedy, fantasy, and paranormal. There are most-likely other themes that can be present here, but since they are not a part of the main narrative, they won't be listed here.
I selected "Wanna Know" by Idealism as it's a delightful song by a marvelous artist. I believe it suits the theme of this prologue fairly well.
Enough words from me. Hope you enjoy the book.
"...Carrie Simmons?", my professor was scanning through the register and it she finally reached my name.
"Hi, Ms. Rodgers. I'm present!"Today was my initial day at university. I'd worked tremendously hard to get here. I could recall the sleepless nights and insomnia that naturally followed with it, like the tail of a bird as it attempts to ascend through the sky and locate the Holy Grail. I had studied for several hours a day with minute breaks, so minute that I felt like my arms would become like noodle soup after writing for such an extended period. The only periods I took to "relax" were when I ate lunch and and utilized the restroom, however I did so only when I deemed it absolutely necessary. There were many nights in which I would not partake in my family dinner in order to slot in more time periods to study. Never in my life would I have thought that I would have spent so much of my time studying and learning, however it seemed worth it to get into a virtuous university.
In addition, I also had to relinquish hobbies I usually did in my free time that wouldn't have been quite beneficial to my success, such as scrolling through YouTube videos at three in the morning (which was very difficult to cease doing as I was addicted to it) and listening to music so loudly in my room that the shelves would shake every time the bass hits, making my mum worrisome that the exorbitant silverware would fall off of the shelf and shatter as it fell to the floor. I also had to commence a part time job to partially pay for the tuition, while my mum paid for the latter. However I'm sure she only made this obligatory because she desired for me to work, either for experience or because she believes I am lazy and have nothing better to do with my free time.
My two friends and I had settled quite a few years ago that we would enroll to this university, referred to as "Trifecta High". It's a university but it appears it was a previous a high school before it was converted to a tertiary education campus, and it's name was never altered in any way. However it appears just about everyone on campus called it Trifecta University anyways. We knew it would be a rigorous task to study here, as it's a private school that is fairly expensive, and been reported to have ridiculous work schedules set up (looks like my insomnia training wasn't for nothing). However, what we did not expect was for there to be so few students on campus. At the orientation, there were most likely around one-hundred students or more in such a large environment. I often worried if they were concerned about students becoming lost, though I'm sure that's what the excess security is for.
"Emily Rollins! Are you present?"
"Yes Ms. Rodgers!"
My mind had drifted so much in thought recalling my past, I had completely forgotten I was in class. Ms. Rodgers stared at me in confusion, and I felt so embarrassed my white cheeks turned a bright red. The other students stared a bit too, until Ms. Rodgers began to inquiry about Emily's hobbies, her community service (apparently was a requirement to be here, yikes) and her stance on politics (again, weird). Emily was undoubtedly my best friend, and I've known her the longest of my two best friends. She's always concerned about your well-being, but in a warmhearted way and in the most nonchalant manner possible. Sometimes though, she can get a bit out of character. I however believe that those types of friends are the best kinds of friends which you can meet in your lifetime. I wouldn't trade her for anything. She always puts me before herself, and it's cute in a silly way. She has a beautiful brown complexion with black hair and sports a pair of rounded glasses. In addition to that, she had these really stellar looking brown eyes that also look slightly grey. I'm not sure how she got that colour eye, because neither of her parents' eyes are that colour. She's fairly tall, at a height of roughly six-foot-two, being fairly fit and athletic, and I was five-foot-five, being about as athletic as a housecat. I get teased for it constantly however I'm used to it. I'm usually too busy studying at home in near darkness with just a lamp on by my table.
