We decided to start from the left side of the room and move our way towards the right. We began by sorting through the mess and throwing away trash. This time Anna initiated the conversation.

"So," she said, almost in a whisper, "how are you feeling?"

"Oh, I'm doing alright. Kinda scary that I don't know who you are, huh?" I continued to pick up and fold her clothes. "I'm sorry we have to get to know each other again."

She continued to speak quietly and with her head down. "I mean, I guess I didn't really know you very well to begin with." She gave me a small, shy grin. "I'm usually with your sister."

"I see," I said, contemplating what she said. "Well, what do you think about us becoming friends now?"

She looked up slightly and nodded with a crooked smile forming on her face, her hazel eyes gleaming with excitement.

We continued to clean the room, and a woman came in with two lemonades. "Great job girls! Hello Crystal, how are you?" I'm assuming this is Anna's mom.

"Oh I'm doing fine, and you?"

"I'm just ecstatic about having these rooms cleaned." She laughed and handed us the lemonade.

After an exhausting 2 hours of cleaning, we decided to take a break and look at out progress. We had about a third of the room cleaned. The rest of the room was still filled with mounts of toys and clothes.

"See, we will be able to finish! We'llbe on the sunny beaches of California in no time," I said.

        And away from my mom.

What if I just ask to call her so I can talk to her? I really want to meet her.

After another hour of sorting and organizing, my dad showed up to take us home. Breanna and I said bye to the girls and left. On the ride home, I decided to ask.
"Hey dad, do you think maybe we could call mom so I can talk to her?"
"Oh, sure honey," he said with a soft smile. "She's most likely working right now, but I'll send her a text and ask when she's available."
        Finally.
