HARSH!!!

The name rebounded through my head, but my voice box suddenly failed me.. All I could do was emit some weird noise from my throat which resembled gargling... Yeah... If that was not embarrassing enough both the families shouted

'SURPRISE!!!"

At least HE had the decency to look embarrassed...

Well he looked dashing as always, but today he was dressed traditional, in a shirt and kasav Dhoti, with a smear of chandanam on his forehead, the typical traditional kerala male.To say that it shocked me would be an understatement.

Thankfully someone removed the teacup from my hand before I dropped it.. MY eyes were stuck on him... WTH!!! I didn't know what to say.. Slowly I could see both our parents and relatives clear from the room to give me the time to process all this and for Harsh to perhaps help me regain my sanity.. Guess non of them did expect me to end up catatonic.

Harsh was by my side seating me on the sofa and he sat by me. I waited for an explanation because I didn't trust myself to speak coherently. 

After a few seconds which felt like an eternity he spoke.

'Jee, darling, I am going to just lay out everything on the table before you come to your senses and freeze me out or bash me up...'

He lifted my chin so that I looked at his face and then he took my hands in his... He did look a little nervous and that was not an emotion I often so on his face.. 

'I have been in love with you for quite some time... And I really want to spend the rest of my life with you... I know that your heart is a mess now, but I cant afford to wait and let some other stupid member of my gender come and break it all over again... Please give me a chance to make you happy.. '

Seeing that I was more shocked, more confused and had no way to get out any form of speech he gave a sigh and continued...

'I know you are confused about the whole family thing, just forget about that for a second.'

I nodded my head and tried to blank out everything else for the time being.

'I know you were mentally prepared to go through with any arranged marriage that was acceptable to you and forego any notions of love. I know you were doing this for your parents too. All I am asking is for you to consider getting married to me, one of your closest friends who you trust. 

I know that you are not in love with me, maybe some lust and a ton of friendship but not love- yet... But I am hoping I can change that... You do know you can trust me right?..'

I nodded once again, forcing myself not to think too much and just concentrating on the logic of what he was saying...

'See, I am not going to ask you to do anything you are not comfortable with. I just want you to allow me to woo you.. To give me a chance to prove that this could be not just good but phenomenal... When you feel that you are sure about this we will think of something more committed...'

'But what if I cant get over this mess in my heart? What if I hurt you and finally lose the one person who I trust and care for...'

He gave me a soft smile, gave my palms a squeeze.
