Chapter 4

Miss, wake up. Your father wishes to see you urgently! came the cry from the maid who was trying to get her out bed.

What time is it, Bella? Teresa asked sleepily.

It is now 10 in the morning Miss. At what time did you sleep last night? You look like you went to bed crying. Are you alright? enquired Bella.

It's nothing, don't worry about it. I'll go freshen up and get ready to meet my father now. Do you know why Papa wants to see me?

No Miss, all I know is that it's about some legal things which I hardly understand and he wants your opinion on it and he is getting impatient so you better hurry. Oh and your mother made you breakfast today.

Teresa went into her bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror, her eyes were puffy and she had some tear stains on her cheeks. She had to look happy for her parents. She quickly scrubbed her face until she was pink and took a cold shower. She thought she felt better now, so she got dressed and ran upstairs, crashing into her father's study.

When this place was being built, I should have had my study built on level 1, near your bedroom. It would have been easier for you to barge in, since you hardly spend time on this level or the ground floor nowadays, chuckled Lorenzo. Good morning by the way. Nearly half the day has gone.

Good morning Papa. Did you want to see me? asked Teresa.

Yes I did. But why you haven't had your breakfast yet. Nevermind. You can eat here. I have some things to discuss with you. It is regarding your marriage.

Lorenzo saw how his daughter tensed up at the mention of her marriage. His heart squeezed in his chest as he kept silently praying to God to have this wedding canceled. Leonardo wasn't good for his daughter, no matter how good she would be for him.

It's okay, I'll eat in a while. I don't feel so hungry right now. What did you want to discuss about my marriage?

Before the Cortez's left, Eduardo handed me some papers, asking me to make a contract between you and Leonardo.

So, my marriage is a contract as well? My life gets to be ruled by everyone else but me. You lot seem to be very fair.

Teresa calm down, marriage isn't supposed to be this way. This marriage is happening for all the wrong reasons, but this is all beyond me. I am also their lawyer.

What type of contract is it Papa? What are the terms and conditions?
