ACT I SCENE IV | 4

ᬊ❍

THE last thing Pierce expected to see when he opened the door to his apartment was his sister, lounging on his couch lazily flicking through the channels as if she had been sitting there a while.

In her other hand was an old bottle of a beverage that was surely unfriendly to children, which was now because of her, half empty.

His green eyes met hers, and he knew that she was yet to discover the stowaway hidden somewhere in his home. 'Piper?' His eyebrows furrowed furiously at the bored expression on her face.

She didn't respond, only continued mindlessly gaping at the television. His eyes had been darting anywhere and everywhere around the living space to inspect if he had left any trace of Reign out in the open.

'How do you keep getting into my apartment?' He growled, eyes still searching for clues.

Reign had hidden well.

What if she was somewhere on the outside?

What if she had already been captured?

He shielded his panic behind an impassive expression.

Piper groaned, rolling her head back on the armrest of his two-seater couch. 'What am I supposed to do, Pierce? You left the door open, its like you're begging me to come in here and drink all of your booze.' She slurred her drunken words, taking yet another gulp of the drink in her hand.

She furrowed her eyebrows, turning the bottle upside down to find that it was completely empty.

Pierce felt his jaw clench.

It was just like Piper to invade his privacy like this and she knew how much he valued it along with his expensive alcohol.

Gritting his teeth, he ignored her and instead asked, 'what do you want?'

She shrugged. 'I heard you disappeared during your shift yesterday, and I am your delta and your sister afterall." She reasoned, kicking both her feet up on Pierce's dilapidated old couch.

"So I came to check in on you, see if you were still alive. Also, I'm out of my happy juice, thought you'd definitely have some lying around.' she smiled offhandedly, using her forearm to wipe her lips dry.

'Your television was on, by the way. It's like you knew I'd come.'

'You're exasperating.' He sighed, shifting his glare from Piper Ashford, irksome younger sibling extraordinaire to his bedroom, where he was almost certain Reign would be, cowering ghoulishly under the bed.

'I'm gonna crash here for some time. They just assigned us new roommates back at the tower and the girl I'm sharing with has halitosis. I don't think she's aware of it, she's entirely too chatty.' Piper ranted, heaving all of her frustrations onto her brother's shoulders without even noticing the slight panicked expression that flitted onto his features at the idea of sharing with her.

'Absolutely not.' Pierce deadpanned, making his way over to the door so that he could escort her out of his sanctuary.

Piper frowned. 'Please! You have no idea what it's like! It's so unfair. How come betas get a choice on whether they want to stay at the tower or not? I feel like a prisoner." She cried dramatically, fanning herself as if she was going to spontaneously combust at the idea of going back to Tenebris Tower.
