Chapter 1

“But muuuum , I don’t want to go,” I murmured , following her around the house as she was rummaging for her sunglasses .

She let out a sigh before saying ‘'I thought we already discussed this, plus Jade will be there too!’’ My mother’s attempt of trying to get me excited to attend the tea party, made me feel even more miserable about going.

“Found it!” my mother exclaimed in victory, the sunglasses in her hand.

Jade and I used to be really close friends since childhood; we went through thick and thin growing up together. I guess it really is true what they say, people do change. Now she’s just a shadow of the person she used to be. She became Lynn’s best friend instead, even though she knew how terrible my relationship with Lynn is. I grimaced at the memory.

The fact that all my mum’s friends were all having their daughters go meant that I had to go too, at least according to my mum that is. I knew that there was no way I would be able to get around this, so I just decided to drop it.

“Fine, I’ll go,” I uttered sulking.

“Good. I’ll be back at noon, don’t forget to clean up your room,”

“Okay mom, Anna’s coming over later tod-”

The sound of the front door closing cut me off. I sighed, and started to climb the stairs up to my room. I gazed at my reflection in my room’s mirror. Staring at my brown messy hair and tired eyes, I looked terrible. This was definitely my all time low.

After about 15 minutes later, the door bell rang. I was certain that it was my best friend Anna at the door.

I swung the door open with a bright smile, which faded as soon as I saw the worry on her face.

“Hey Kelly,’’ Ann said unenthusiastically.

She was wearing a fleece top on which her blonde hair fell cascade on, along with a pair of dark jeans. Which was what she usually wore when she’s going to her volleyball practice

 “Ann, are you ok? ’’

“Um yeah, we need to talk,”

We both walked through the living room, heading to my bedroom. I guessed she wanted to talk about my ex-boyfriend and Lynn. When Jake broke up with me, two weeks ago, he suddenly became interested in Lynn which made me feel dreadful. How could he have gotten over me so rapidly?!

‘’ So, what’s up? ’’ I asked, crashing on my bed while Anna sat on the chair opposite the bed.

For a moment or two she stayed silent, her eyebrows furrowing. She was probably debating whether she should tell me or not “umm, you know that Lynn and Jake are like hanging out more those days, right?”

I nodded, prepared of what’s going to be said next.

“W-well, they are sort of like in a relationship now,’’

I didn’t think it was going to be hard for me to hear that from her, as for the fact that I already learned about it yesterday. It was impossible not to, they were flaunting it all over Facebook!

I cried my eyes out that night. I felt the urge to do the same at that very moment, my brain responded to the urge immediately and tears began to form in my eyes.

“Okay” I shrugged, trying to sound as casual as possible. I also drew a forced smile on my face to affirm it.

I had decided not to tell her I already knew though.

“You’re ok with this?”

Her expression was full of confusion, which wasn’t surprising. Ann was my best friend, so even if I was faking to everyone that I was over Jake and I didn’t care about him, she could definitely see right through me.

“Yeah, of course I am!” I simply lied

“If you say so,” she heaved a sigh obviously not buying it. “You’re all wet if you think I believe you though,”

I bit my lower lip, eager to change the subject.

“My mom is forcing me to go to the tea party next weekend, "

“And you don’t want to go because…” she cocked an eyebrow

“Jade and Lynn will be there,”

“I can come along if that would make you feel better,”

A small smile formed on my face, I had an amazing friend that cared so much about me. I was glad to have her around

“No, it’s okay I can handle it on my own,” I retorted

“Fine then, tell me if you change your mind though,”

“Sure, I’m hungry are you?”

“Naah, just had breakfast at home plus I should probably get going now, or else I‘d be late for my volleyball practice,” she got up walked towards the door

“Okay, tell Emily I said hi,”

she nodded as she got out of the room shutting the door behind her, leaving me alone with my thoughts…

I couldn’t just surrender to the misery I was in, I felt so pathetic. So as both my brothers were asleep, my older sister at a sleepover, my mother out with a friend and my father out of town. I decided that I didn’t want to sit alone, and figured I should go for a run.Hopefully it would take my mind off things for a while.
