Chapter 10
*6 Months later*
I stared out the window down at the yard. Watching all the guests coming in, with all their wealthy glory. I sighed, straightening out my beautiful white gown, with gold lace.
I can't believe I'm doing this. I told Nathaniel I would. I would give a chance but I don't know if I could go along with it.
Could I bear to stand in the room full of people I've never met celebrating such a joyous occasion? I seriously doubt it.
My thoughts are interrupted by a maid knocking on my door.
"Madam Victoria, it is time for your appearance." I sigh again. "can I have a moment please?"
The maid frowns. "ma'am you're not having second thoughts are you? You promised..."
"I know I know, just give a minute please. I just need a moment." She nodded her head and left.
I took a deep breathe. I can do this, I muttered to myself. I straightened my dress one last time, fixed my make up a bit and walked out.
The maid gave me an encouraging smile. And mad a motion for me to follow her.
We make it to where the top of the stairway would be if doors weren't shutting them from me. There Nathaniel stood waiting for me.
I broke into a small smile when I saw him. My breathe of air since I was forced to drown for 5 months in my own heartbreak.
Nathaniel senses me looking at him and turns to look. His face breaks into a huge smile. He extends his hand for mine. I put my hand in his and he gives me a small squeeze.
"You look extravagant Victoria." He whispers in my ear. I blush.
"Same to you Nate." He smiles. "I'm sorry for making you promise to attend the celebration on my victory on the war for my kingdom. It wouldn't have felt right if you weren't here by my side. With your amazing talent of war strategies we were able to defeat the enemies without any casualties! Who could have ever know you had such a talent! "
"No, it's fine. I totally understand. It's just new you know. I've never been in a room with so many people watching me, it makes me nervous." I mutter.
"He won't be here."
"What?"
"HE won't me here." Nate says empathizing the 'he'.
My shoulders relax and I let out a huge breathe I didn't know I was holding. "How do you i know."
"He told me last night he wasn't coming."
Even though I was glad he wasn't coming,I still have the nerve to feel sad. I missed him even though he broke me. But I was more worried about me forgetting his face then me getting over him.
I know the love I had for Luke was once in a life time thing. I would never love someone as strongly as I did him, but it didn't work out an I had to get that out of my head.
"Now we have the pleasure to introduce our dear hostesses of this great party! The lord Nathaniel of Grandish, accompany by his right hand lady and commander of forces The Lady Victoria Carman Mason!"
The doors swung open, Luke took my hand and we made the graceful descend down the stairs as everyone clapped and cheered for us.
Nathaniel gave me a proud smile and pulled me closer and I couldn't help but smile. This celebration was for Nate, for him being able to regain the land he loved so much and for congratulating me in my talents and it felt nice.
As soon as we hit the main floor a fast waltz started playing and Nate flashed me a quick smile.
He then took me into the middle of the floor and we started to dance just the way we practiced. The hosts of the party always danced first and afterwards everyone else would join whenever they wanted.
Nate spun me, dipped me, and we were all over the place dancing gracefully. After a while I looked around and saw nobody dancing, just standing there staring at us with shock on their faces.
I turn to Nate "Nobodies dancing." Nate dips me. "Nobody wants the ruin the magic we've created."And he bring me up suddenly, catching me of guard, causing me to grab his arms for support.
I start to laugh and we continue dancing gracefully. All my troubles forgotten. For once in 6 months I was happy.
Luke.
"No I'm not going. Something came up. - Yea I know I'm sorry- I'll be there another day. -ok. - alright. Bye."I let a huge breath go. Goodness that was a hard conversation to have with Nathaniel. He was so happy and cheerful and it was hard pretending he was happy for his friend, when really was down right miserable.
These 6 months were rough, but because of the war happening with Nate, that kept his mind off stuff for a little while until he heard about Victorias part in the war. Commander of Forces. He was surprised when he found out she had such a talent in inventing strategies in taking out the enemy. And he was even more surprised when he saw she was able to do it peacefully without any casualties. But then war wasn't a distraction anymore. He then had to spend every second trying to avoid her when he heard the were going to be in the same camp. He let her go for a reason. He didn't want to hurt her anymore. He did it for her even if it meant tearing his heart.
He even refused his best friends party because he knew she'll be there.
What a mess. He put his head down on his desk. Trying to sort out his thoughts.
Then it came to him. Why would he be such a bad friend to Nate just because some silly girl would be there? He had every right to be there. He helped his friend by sending his own men and fighting along side them. He was going to go. He wasn't going to be a coward anymore.
************^***
He watched the walk down the stairs. A perfect picture of happiness and power. She had a shy smile on her beautiful face, but she waso graceful an happy on Nate's arm. He felt a stab to his heart.
She is probably didn't miss him.
Once the happy couple got to the main floor a fast waltz played and the broke into a graceful dance. Their steps going perfectly with the music. they looked good together. And Victoria seemed to enjoy dancing with him. When Nate dipped her and picked her suddenly, causing her to go into a fit of giggles, jealousy burned through his veins.
"Darling don't they look beautiful together? I heard Lord Nate was thinking of proposing to the elegant girl." He heard someone whisper.
Now he really felt murderous.
