Ah, profiles. We have a complicated relationship. Your profile is usually the first thing a person will see when looking for your story. A profile is like a book cover. We don't mean to judge by it, but we do.

For profile pictures, you want to have something that reflects who you are. Some people chose to do pictures of themselves. Some people choose to use things that reflect their personality or account. For example, my personal account is @CiggyTheSwan so I used a picture of a swan! This account, @Typewriters_And_Tea has the name of the account as the profile picture.

The recommended size for a Wattpad profile is 500x500 px. This will help ensure that no vital parts of the image get cropped out. I use photopea.com to design my profile pictures.

There's also the background. The background is what people will see behind your profile picture. Some people choose to do solid colors, computer backgrounds, honestly anything. Your background should go well with your profile picture. Since I used neutrals on my profile picture, I went with rainbow stripes for the background. It looked nice and provides good contrast.

There's also the "About" section that we fill out. You can fill this out in nearly any way you want. It's designed to give people a better feel for your books as well as tell them about yourself! You don't have to include everything about you, but some key points to include are age, upload schedule, facts about yourself, hobbies, and if you accept read/follow requests.

Then there's the location. I cringe every time I see someone put their actual address in this box. It's unsafe to do that! There are cyberbullies and possibly stalkers on Wattpad. I usually put a reference to something in that box. I like musicals, so the location I have listed for @CiggyTheSwan is "On an island in between there and here." It's a reference to one of my favourite musicals, Come From Away.

Remember: when all is said and done, your profile should reflect your personality. Don't design it in a way that's not your personality. Not everyone's going to like it. That's okay!

Happy writing!
