Follows

Follows and followers are a tricky thing. When someone follows you, do you follow them back? What if you don't like their content? And how do you get more followers?

Here's the general rule of thumb: if they hadn't followed you first, would you still follow them?

Honestly, I used to follow back anyone who followed me. I used to follow people in hopes that they would follow me. Yeah, that method doesn't work. If someone follows me and they don't have a lot of followers, sure! I'll follow them to help them build up their writing profile. But I don't expect everyone I follow to follow me back. And I hope that people don't assume that just because they follow me, I'll follow them back. Who you follow should be sincere, not in a desperate mad-dash to gain more followers.

I'm not saying that follow-backs are bad. They're awesome! You get to support a writer AND read some amazing content. But don't feel pressured to do so. 

Remember: at the end of the day, the people you follow should be people that you genuinely enjoy following. Don't follow them back JUST to be nice. If you like their content, sure! follow them back! But if not, don't click the button.
