"Sorry, uh, were you talking to me?"His green eyes pierced into me. I recognized him but I couldn't tell you where from, his eyes grazed my body, and I suddenly became a bit insecure.
"I was going to tell you that's my seat you're in, but you seem comfortable where you're at." I said as I pursed my lips.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I could move if you want." He looked at the empty seat beside him.
"No, I'll just sit there it's fine. I can tell you're new here and I know how rough that can be." I hurriedly sat down to get out of his gaze.
He continued to watch me as he spoke,"Yeah, first day jitters. Especially when everyone's already formed their groups and you're last to join."
He seemed sweet, opposite from how he looked. I couldn't have expected someone so fine to not be conceited or condescending.
"Well, I'd invite you to my group but you'd probably prefer someone better."
I gripped my pen in my hand after I realized what I'd said. He looked at me and smirked, the pointy tooth that shown made him all the more attractive.
"Dallas Flynn." He said through a light laugh.
"Chanel Rouge, uh, I didn't mean what I just said I meant like-"
"Yeah, I know, happens often." He put his hand on his chin as if to be thinking, "But, if there's someone better than this, please, be my guest."
"Huh?" I said on instinct although I heard exactly what he'd said, I had to stop and actually interpret what he'd said. He just watched me in amusement and then laughed a little again.
"Sorry." He said, as the the teacher walked in. I happened to look up and see Paris in the row closest to the front, eyes wide and trying to mouth words to me.
I was too far in my mind overthinking the compliment he'd just given me to read her lips.
Lol, Playboy things, they do this all the time. But is he really doing this now? This is not a good look on him. He'll probably be down some girls' throat in no time. He's not going to play me. Haha.
For the rest of class I tried focusing but having him next to me was already hard, rethinking those words and letting scenarios play out in my head just made focusing impossible.
The rest of the school day was just as bad.
--
"Chanel you're too cute."
"Chanel."
"Chanel!?"
I looked up from my daydream to Paris standing over top of me,"What are you doing? You had two WHOLE class periods next to A MODEL and you just stared off into space? Oh no, honey. If I don't have a chance with him we are NOT letting yours slip away. And then we have to come get you!?"
"Okay, but how do you know you don't have a chance with him? Sorry, Paris but I don't chase guys. Don't have time for them." I started putting my books away.
Paris rolled her eyes,"What?" I questioned, "Chanel, we all know how you are. There is no way you don't have the least bit attraction towards him."
"Listen, I don't have time to play around with little boy toys! When the right one comes around, I'll know, and hopefully he won't have a bunch of girls fawning over him, because I don't do competition either." That's how I truly felt.
Ever since my crush in the fifth grade disrespected me and then made me the reason why he'd never date a "black girl," that's how I've felt. The kids in the school just followed suit being as though it was majority whites, the only few other black girls despised me for it. I'd never wish that pain and loneliness on anyone neither would I want to ever go through that again.
"Fine," she sighed,"But since you have no interest in him could you talk to him for me? Like a wing girl?" I looked at her like she was going crazy.
"Please?" She begged as we walked towards Kalani and Parker who was having a conversation amongst themselves.
"Whatever, but this just means you owe us a party at your house, because I'd be risking my life."
"Oh my gosh, Chani you're so dramatic. And you know how my parents are!" She playfully mocks them in a Chinese accent,"No boyfriend, no party, become doctor, graduate with A!"
"Well, I guess you'll be breaking two rules this year." I joked.
She giggled, Paris' laugh always made me smile.
Kalani turned toward me and Paris, "I heard something about a party?"
We walked home debating on themes and details for the party which we decided would be at Kalani's house.
And somehow through all of that Dallas still seemed to come into my head, I hated myself for letting a Playboy as clear as him get to me.
Midway to my house which left only me and Kalani, I couldn't tell in the moment but I thought Dallas was walking behind us now.
"Chanel?"
I turned around so fast on my heel I got whiplash, I tried to keep it unnoticeable though. "Dallas?"
"THE Dallas Flynn?" Kalani seemed shocked.
He smiled, "Yeah, I was just walking home," he pointed behind him,"And I recognized Chanel." Then pointed at me.
I was at a loss for words that he actually remembered my name. Kalani elbowed me, and rolled her hand out motioning me to speak.
"Sorry, I was just shocked you remembered my name, so you live this way too?" I pointed up the street to break off eye contact for a second.
"No, I live a little ways up. It'd be nice if I could talk to you though, like out of school, if that's okay with you of course."
"Yes! I mean, yes, she would like your number uh, Chanel hasn't talked to many people recently so this would be a great opportunity." Kalani answered.
"Or maybe we can start off a little more subtle like Instagram" He had that charming smile on again.
"Yeah, I can get your Instagram, it'd probably be awkward if it was anything else." I said then eyed Kalani.
"That's what I was thinking," He pulled out his phone and showed me his Instagram @, I followed him, and he followed me back.
"So, uh, why are you walking? You don't have a driver or limousine?" Kalani rashly blurted out.
"Nope, I'm just a normal teen who just has a little more of a well known job. It's like a famous person's driver, no one drives them. Their job is just a little more well known." He winked at her.
He began walking up to cross the street. "See ya, Chanel." I watched him as he watched me.
When he finally got out of view me and Kalani looked at each other and she started lecturing me about not getting his number all the way to my house.
I ignored her until we got to my front," Okay, I'm sorry, Lani, next time I'll do exactly as you say. Love ya, and see you tomorrow." She called out to me as I ran in the house for protection.
When I got into my room I hurriedly took my phone out to browse through Dallas's model pictures, I seen he posted to his story which was not there earlier when I added him, so I tapped it.
My heart skipped fifteen beats. No, actually I think my soul left and then came back.
I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to do a photoshoot with you @Chanigotcurlz2
Either this guy had egotistical ways or he just gave no shits if the world knew.
Sure, I wanted the world to know my name one day but not like this.
