I always knew Nathan had the worst anger issues because he was always more patient and forgiving, not being too quick to attack. But all of that pint up anger leads to things like this.

But I didn't think it would be so bad within him to hit a girl, better yet, beat her.

I didn't know what to think of it. She did stab me, possibility of death coming with it, but, Nathan should know better.

He's a black man. I mean, yeah, he's mixed but he's still black. There is no way they're going to sentence him lightly for this.

"Ethan, how long are they keeping him? Does he have bail yet?" I said frantically.

Ethan stood up and walked towards the door, "Ethan!" I called out to him.

"I'm gonna go tell the doctors you're woke." He said without looking back.

He left and I was alone in the dark again. Panicking. But too weak to do anything.

"Shit." I whispered to myself.

I lay down in dark silence for a few minutes getting hopeful everytime the pitter patter of a doctor's shoes or heels come passing the door.

I was just about ready to get up and find Ethan myself before a shadowy figure bursted through the door.

"Chani? Chanel?" I heard Kalani's voice cry out to me in a whimper.

I wasn't completely sure if it was her, "Lani?"

"Oh my god, Chanel!" She shrieked as she followed my voice towards my bed in a hurried scamper.

She jumped on my body which made me cry out, "I'm so sorry, I couldn't see. What happened? Are you okay?!" She cried hysterically.

"I'm okay, Lani. I just don't know what the fuck..." I trailed off on the verge of tears. I was tired of crying so I just took a deep breath and looked down wearily.

"Shit, Chani." She grabbed my hand and placed it inside of hers pressing them to her mouth.

She kissed them repeatedly, "Damn it." She mumbled.

"Lan-" She grabbed me, pulling herself in and hugged me tightly.

"We're going to be alright." She whispered to me. She gave me this eerie feeling of a mom figure in this moment.

Eerie in a sense that my friend is giving me that warm reassurance that a mother only has reign over, the one who was supposed to be here tonight waiting where Ethan was. Why didn't she make sure her face was the first to be seen by the child who's life could've been very much possibly taken away?

Why didn't I get to see her face stressed out and worried because she could've lost her daughter.

Nathan.

She could've been with him. I guess.

Kalani jumped up and ran over to the light flicking it on. My eyes just adjusted to the darkness so I scrunched my face up while putting my hand in front of the light so it wouldn't be too harsh on my eyes.

Kalani rushed back towards me kneeling on the floor with her hands on my face, "Lani, are you okay?"

I've never seen Kalani this desperate since her mom died and it actually scared me to see a carefree person such as herself so hysterical.

She looked at me and smiled, teary eyed. If she started crying I was going to cry with her, regardless.

Once again someone else busted through the door. Me and Kalani diverted our attention towards the direction of the door. Paris and Parker came rushing in with a doctor behind them and Ethan behind him.
