Everything That Glitters Isn't Gold

I wasn't angry.

There was a mixture of emotions but anger wasn't one of them. I felt embarrassed, I didn't even know the guy personally. If a female went out with a guy after a day of knowing him, I would shame her for diving in too quickly and trusting so soon.

"Lani! What the hell!? I don't even know him!" I pretended as though I was angry.

I could never show that I'm interested because in the end, if it fails, I'll be the one to lose the most. I'll hurt the most.

"Chani!" Her laughs turned into hoards of snorts and deep exhales.

I barely moved to jump on her before she saw it coming and ran.

I chased her down the hallway, she tried to turn down the steps but slipped into the bathroom door causing her to fall and me landing on top of her.

We both groaned and held our heads. She held her back as well.

"Yeah, bet you don't think it's funny anymore." I hit her softly in the arm.

"Yes I do." She started laughing again but then choked on her saliva.

I laughed at her and we just laughed at each other.

Nathan came out of his room because of all the ruckus and looked at us as if we were slow,"Why are you two making so much noise, damn. I was just downstairs slaving over a hot stove, you don't even eat it, now this..."

"No one told me, where's Ethan? I've just been seeing you all day." I looked around him.

"You fucking hate me!" He turned to go back in his room.

Me and Kalani turned and looked at one another and couldn't help but bust out in laughter.

I heard his door slam,"It's not fucking funny!" He yelled, I could hear his voice crack.

We immediately stopped laughing.

"I need to get home anyway, dinner's probably ready and I don't have clothes to stay the night." She scratched her head,"So you deal with that."

We both stood helping each other,"Yeah..." I agreed.

Kalani fast walked into my room and came back out with my shades,"I'm borrowing these for my Britney moment." We both quietly laughed,"Ok see ya."

I walked towards Nathan's door and stood there for a little.

"Nathan, I'm coming in."

I opened the door and he was playing on his PS4. He seemed fine until I saw him wipe his cheek with his shoulder.

I walked over to him and hugged his head being as though that's the only thing my arms could fit around,"I'm sorry, Nathan, I don't hate you. I love you very much and I want you to ever feel like I don't."

He didn't respond.

"Tomorrow if it's okay with you I'm gonna cook with you, so make sure you get me. But sometimes when I'm laying in my room with nothing to do but Netflix I can become so antisocial I forget that my family exists, so no I don't hate seeing your face, I love your fat face."

I started pulling his cheeks.

"I was just worried because I hadn't seen Ethan in, what, two days?"

"I know," he sighed, finally getting himself together to speak.

"It's just that this shit can get so overwhelming, I mean mom is never doing shit but falling in and out of love with strangers, Ethan is always out doing some dumb shit with our friends. Not that I don't want to do dumb shit, it's because I have to sit in here all day and babysit mom and you're just always in your room doing god knows the fuck what."
