Quietly Competing

Finally after going to a thousand different places, me and Dallas finally agreed on Wendy's for lunch.

When we were done eating, we picked my friends up from Parker's house, where they all met up.

We got to the movies about twenty minutes early. Kalani started freaking out about snacks but Dallas had told us he had money to spend since he was already prepared for our date and was going to go all out.

"This is going to take forever," Parker whined as we waited in the snack line.

"Parker, we already had to wait in that line to get in, you can hold out." Paris giggled at her whining.

A girl behind us tapped Paris' shoulder, "Can we go first, it's only two of us." She said standing with a guy who was about 6'5 and seemed to not notice what she was doing.

Paris looked to us asking if they could go on ahead. "Tell them, no. We won't be long, we haven't been waiting in this long line just to wait longer, the movie is starting soon." Kalani said.

Paris turned to the girl apologetically, "We won't be long, sorry."

"I didn't fucking ask if you're gonna be long or not, I just wanted to know if we could go before your big ass group, bitch," She rolled her eyes.

The guy seen her but wore a  confused look, "Babe, the fuck are you doing?" He said low.

At this point all of us, Parker, Kalani, Paris and me were looking at the girl and giving her a variety of looks.

Dallas looked back but didn't really react, he grabbed me, "Ignore it, Chanel." He mumbled to me.

Kalani pushed Paris aside who was directly in front of the girl, "Bitch, your fat stank breath ass wants to get to the snacks so bad. Don't talk to her like that! All she said was we wouldn't be long, I didn't know it was a fucking problem to object, the fuck."

The girl seemed a little surprised that she'd said something to her, "Okay, but you're acting like I need a snack, I have my snack right here. Where's yours? Nowhere to be found. Weirdo ass whore, fuck off." She grabbed her boyfriend who seemed taken aback by all of this.

I already knew how Kalani was so I tried to pull her back reaching past Dallas and Parker, "First of all, you bum ass bitch-" She stopped and looked at the girl.

"I'm not giving you the time of my day. At the end of the day, you're not getting in front of us." Kalani said turning back around. I was surprised by her maturity.

We both knew growing up if anyone tried us it was Kalani fighting them and me backing her up if there was more than one person or if she was losing. We were so little and tomboyish.

Kalani couldn't let go of that though. Which is why I thought I'd never see the day where she showed more self control than the other person.

"Whatever, st-"

"Babe, shut the fuck up. Can't you see, everyone doesn't want to fucking argue with you. You know what, we're leaving. Why are you even asking people to let you ahead? Stop being toxic..." The girl's boyfriend grabbed her, his voice trailing off as they left, arguing.

Parker put her arm around Kalani, "That was smart of you. Unexpected, but smart. I dunno you starting to look a little different." Parker teased.

"Stop!" Kalani playfully hit her.

Dallas scoffed and looked at me with a confused smile, "Are they dating?"

Me and Paris laughed at him, "That's how me and Chanel was, but they're not." Paris beat me to the punch.

He tilted his head, as if he'd been thinking they were this whole time, "They're not?" Which was so cute and innocent.

"Nope." We both said in unison.

Paris looked at me sheepishly and I felt bad remembering what I told her. I apologized to her through face expressions keeping it on the low from Dallas and basically told her he was all hers.

For the rest of the night Paris was with Dallas while we watched Brahms: The Boy 2.

Parker and Kalani talked on the other side of me.

I felt like a fifth wheel but wondered if that's how Paris would've felt if it was me and Dallas instead. I would rather me feel this way than her.

After the movie was over, Dallas dropped Paris and Kalani off at their house.

Me and Parker sat in the back being as though Paris had just left and she was sitting up front with Dallas.

We pulled up to my house. I said bye to Dallas. Parker walked me around the corner to my front to make it seem as though I had just come with her. The front door was locked but after a lot of banging, Ethan opened the door looking extremely tired.

"Ethan!" I hugged him tightly. "If I knew you were coming home today, I wouldn't have left."

"Yeah, Nathan told me you went to a party but Parker doesn't give me an 'i just came from a lit ass party' vibe." Ethan said tiredly.

Parker had a low lazy ponytail in her head. She wore a plain white T-shirt, grey sweatpants, and her favorite Nike slides. She scratched her head and looked around.

"Yeah, she doesn't give me an 'i just went to see a scary movie' vibe either, but we did." I said laughing, she laughed too.

"Wassup though, Ethan. Haven't seen you in about a week." Parker stuffed her hands in her pockets.

"Nothing, I just was at my girl's house. We broke up." He sighed.

"Shit, sorry. Y'all good? It wasn't too heavy was it?"

"Nah, we got into a fight. She told her father I hit her. I love her though, like a lot. I wouldn't do no shit like that especially if it's gonna hurt my girl. Shit's crazy bruh..." Ethan rubbed his eyes tiredly.

"That's crazy yo, she just lied or..? Nevermind man, I'll just talk to you tomorrow, you look tired as hell." Parker walked up to him, dapping him up.

"Yeah, I'll see you, Parks."

"Aye, good looks, man. See you tomorrow, Chanel."

"See you, Parker." I hugged her and then watched her walk around the corner.

"So, what? Tell me what happened, because what the fuck? Y'all looked so happy." I questioned Ethan.

"It's not all that, we got into a little heated argument, her dad came in early from work, and I guess she was scared." We walked inside as he told me.

"What do you mean scared? So she lied on you and threw you under the bus to save her ass!?" I yelled.

He grabbed me and put his finger over his mouth, "Shh, mom is sleep, so is Nathan. And no it's not like that, she wouldn't do that."

"So what the hell!?-"

"Shh! Chani, come on now. They're sleep."

"What do you mean by 'heated argument'? Were you guys yelling or do you mean physical? Like, you're not giving me the whole story, I can tell." I was starting to get angry. Not at him, but his ex girlfriend.

As Ethan tried telling me that nobody got physical, I couldn't make it out very well because we were in the dark, but I could've sworn I seen a bruise under his eye.

"Ethan! What happened to your face?"

He looked at me,"I'm going to bed, you're not even listening. Good n-"

I realized, "Ethan, Did she fucking hit you!?"
