warnings: angst, teenagers being teenagers
***
You watch the water ripple again and Peter is shouting at you and Ned to run, get everyone out and run. So you do, because Peter told you so, Nadia also told you so. How could you say no? You didn't have a choice, you never did, never truly felt like you would.
You see MJ grab Betty's hand and run, Brad taking off as well. Flash is hesitant, holding his phone up and recording as a monster gets bigger as it sucks up the water from the river.
"Ned! RUN!" You shout and Ned trips over his own feet before taking off.
"Flash! Let's go!" you scream, grabbing him, he trips too and you grunt before picking him up, tossing him over your shoulder as you run in the opposite direction.
Flash is screaming but you can't hear him, you focus on running up the steps two at a time, as far away from the river, from the monster, from Peter as you can. You finally make it to the square and see the rest of your class huddled underneath an awning. You run that way, setting Flash down.
"How were you able to-," Brad starts.
"Adrenaline," you brush him off as Flash sits down, looking dumbfounded.
"Okay, roll call, what's happening, who is here?" Mr. Harrington asks, beginning to count heads.
"MJ, okay, Betty, Flash, Brad, Ned, y/n, where's Peter?" Mr. Harrington and the group of students look all around for their curly-haired classmate. You know where he is, you know that he isn't with you and that scares you. Fear courses through your veins. What if Peter got hurt? What if the water monster tried to hurt him? Where is Quentin? You saw him as you walked by the jewelry shop. But now you had no idea where he is. Would he be fighting against the water monster? Would he be fighting against Peter? Nadia and Quentin's plan doesn't make sense. You have no idea what they planned on having you do, other than kill Peter. But why the monsters? Did they create them? Was this a test? You aren't sure, but you do what you are told, you evacuated the area and left Peter alone to fend for himself. The thought makes you want to curl in on yourself, or to leave before Nadia could give you the order that would kill you, or at the very least a part of yourself, when you are forced to kill Peter.

Peter stares at the water monster as people are running and screaming in different directions. He's grateful that you and Ned took off, even if it was funny that you literally picked Flash up to carry him off, he doesn't have time to laugh. The monster smashes its fists down against a boat and its hands smash into the building next to Peter. He shoots a web at it, dropping his hands in frustration when he realizes his webs will do nothing against a monster that's made of water. Maybe, just maybe, the web would distract the monster. But it seems to do the exact opposite, turning towards a walking bridge and moving with the current towards it.
"Oh no you don't," Peter says, running up the stairs and jumping across these huge poles, jumping on a gondola, grabbing a stick to catapult himself onto the bridge.
"Are you okay?" he asks someone who has fallen down as everyone pushed and shoved to get out of the way of the monster.
The man nods and Peter uses gentle force to push him out of the way. He turns just in time for the water monster to attack the bridge, stone crumbling as he's thrown back against the building, soaking wet. He gasps, not given much of a chance to recover as he stands up. There's a ray of green light that hits the monster and Peter turns his head to see something or someone fly out of the sky towards the monster. A trail of green smoke appears behind him and Peter swears the guy is literally wearing a fishbowl as a helmet. Out of his hands are these green triangles and Peter's eyes widen as the water monster seems to pause.
