"Today is my 17th birthday and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm excited to see everything that aunty Aya and Ms. Silver has planned for me. Every time I thought about today I would cry because my mother isn't here anymore to watch me grow up, she's doing it from heaven now. I got up and went to my closet so I can grab something to wear for today. We went shopping last Sunday after church and I got much stuff I like I wish I could wear it all at once. After about 20 minutes of contemplating I decided to check the weather because I don't want to get too cute and have it ruined by some rain. I also need to dress to impress because I invited my entire class.
I chose to go with a yellow skirt and a white crop top throw on my forces, we lit. I laid my clothes out on the bed then went back in the closet for some to wear until my guests start arriving. I told them I would help set up but they told me to stay out the way because it was my day. Since I'm staying out the way, I invited over a few a my new friends to hang out with today until the party starts.
I went to shower and when I came out my flash was going off the hook. I grabbed my phone thinking it was the end of the world. Then I thought to myself, my world can't end much more since my mom is already gone. I teared up looking at the photo we took at the beach, just weeks before her sudden death. This is gonna be harder than I thought. She's only been gone for 2 months max and here I am, partying.
I have to force these thoughts out of my head, or else I'm going to let it ruin my birthday. My mom was so strong, I know she would't want to see my crying and upset so I texted a friend I knew that was going through something similar. Today is going to be a great day. I have my life, my friends, and my mother. Dead or alive.
** Later that day
I was watching as all the guests arrived and the one person I was looking for wasn't here. I picked up my phone and dialed my best friend's number, the phone rings and he answered.
Brent: Girl, yo house is so big.
Me: WAIT! YOU'RE HERE?!?!?!
Brent: Of course I am, I wouldn't have missed this day for the life of me. The catch is, you have to find me. When you find me, you will find your present. Good luck.
