My alarm echoed through my empty room causing me to jump out of my sleep. I rolled over with my eyes still halfway closed and patted through the sheets for my phone. Once I located it, the bright screen blinded me as I tried to read the time. It was 6.am. I threw my phone down and closed my eyes again and started to drift back to sleep. I'll only rest for another five minutes. My phone began to ring again with a second alarm. I forgot I did that; I knew once I tried to go back to sleep, I'll eventually just oversleep and never go to school. I could feel weight on my femur, I looked down and it was my school uniform, which was probably laid out by my mother. I grabbed my phone along with the charger and headed to the bathroom. I didn't sleep as well as I thought. I imagined what time it was in New York. I didn't really tour the house when we got here but when I entered the bathroom my mouth gaped open; it was magical. It had a see-through shower with marble flooring and countertops. It also had a wide mirror and a deep his and hers sink with lots of counter space. I turned on the water to start a shower. Once I got in, I immediately woke up.
"Hurry up Lani, I'll walk you to the bus in 30 minutes." I heard my dad yell from downstairs
I hurried out of the shower and looked at the uniform that was laid out for me. My dad must have picked it up last night while I was sleeping. It was a navy blue, white, and grey plaid skirt with a dress shirt and a tie. It also came with a jacket, like a tux jacket but a female version. I was expecting this and its exactly what I imagined my uniform to look like. I told my dad, if possible, could he get me a size or two smaller because I didn't want my skirt to be too long and big fitting on me. I grabbed the uniform along with my curling iron and headed back into the bathroom. I plugged in my curling iron before I slide off my pajamas bottoms and put on the skirt. It was fitted and hugged my curves nicely. It was about three inches past fingertip length, so it was long enough for the school dress code. By then my curling irons were hearted enough so I started to curl a few strands of my hair, just enough for it to have some bounce and a little volume. I had some natural looking lash extensions already on, I got them done before we left New York. I put on my shirt and the outfit was complete. I was going to a public school, so I hoped they weren't super strict on the dress code. I grabbed some lip gloss from my desk along with some tiny hoop Chanel earrings. I grabbed a pair of navy-blue Jordan's my dad had bought when we moved to Colorado a few years back. I also had some navy blue and white stacked socks that matched perfectly with my new fit. I stuffed some pencils in my new purse along with my charger and my phone. With my shoes in hand, I jogged downstairs.
"You ready?" my dad asked while stuffing his face with toast and eggs. I dropped my purse and shoes by the door and walked closer towards the kitchen. I sat by the island and my mom pushed a plate in front of me and gestured for me to eat and I didn't hesitate to grab and spoon full and shove it in my mouth.
"Yeah." I answered with my mouth full. My mom frowned at my actions while my dad only chuckled. Finishing up his food and went to the front door and put on his shoes and grabbed his keys.
"Okay, hurry up and finish, I'll walk you to the bus stop before I have to go to this orientation meeting." He sighed while walking out the front door. I finished my breakfast quickly and jogged to the front door. I quickly put on my shoes and met my dad outside I was greeted with a big smile, and I was more than happy to spend time with him. My dad was silent for a moment, but he soon spoke up
"I feel like you deserve something big. Something you can take along with you no matter where we move. Something permanent. What do you think, have anything in mind?" he looked over with a wide smile. I could only return the genuine happiness and smile back.
"I honestly can't think of anything right now." I replied truthfully.
"That's fine, you don't have to answer right away. Take your time."
