James P.O.V

I walked Lily to the castle like a true gentleman, and headed up to my dormitory.

I was glad that when I got there it was empty. I had some thinking to do.

I was surprised that Lily had agreed to hang out with me at all, much less be comfortable with talking about important things. I have never been a guy that you can share your feelings with. It's just never been my thing. I'm not a very empathetic person. But I listened to Lily tell me who she truly felt. Especially because she feels so different than me. I can't imagine how she must be feeling trying to keep up with all that. The only reputation I have to uphold is the one where you DON'T turn in work.

I take of my coat, scarf, and boots and settle on my bed.

I have liked Lily since the day she came into my compartment, but she always treated me with indifference. I suppose I havent made it that easy for her to genuinely like me with all the pranks and flirting. I have been trying to ask her out for three years now and I've always gotten the same answer. No.

Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way. I need to try something else, or I'm never going to get her. Thinking about it makes my chest literally ache. How could a bad boy like me get a girl like her?

Lily P.O.V

I was was walking to the library, James had gone to the common room, I was looking for a book.

Not just any book. A book about the shrieking shack. All I really know about it is that it's the most haunted building in Britain.

I was looked through the library found my book and sat down at my favorite spot. I took of my scarf and coat, settling in for a good read. I only had about an hour before curfew.

The book was facinating. It had all sorts of theories and legends about what was really haunting the shrieking shack.

But I prefer to not make assumptions based on anything but solid fact. So I checked out a few more books and started trying to get through those, when my mind wandered to my time with James.

It had been nice, he was a good listener. And believe it or not I enjoyed being around him. He has this calming presence. I scoffed. I never thought calm would be a word I used to describe James Potter. He had listened to all my doubts, and not judged me for them. Maybe he was changing.

A voice snapped me out of my thoughts. A voice I hoped never to hear again.

"Lily, talk to me." He said leaning on the table looking into my eyes.

"Leave me alone Severus." I growled, holding his gaze.

"Lily Evans, tell me I did not just see you walk into the castle with that Potter." He practicality spat out the last word.

"Because if I did I would-" I cut him of.

"No Severus, I'm not doing this whole thing again. I don't want to talk to you. Escpecally about James Potter." I said closing my book and standing up.

He blocked my path. "Why him escpecally?" He mumbles coldly, catching me of guard.

" Because I didn't want to hear you tear him apart." I said proudly, keeping my head held high.

Severus got even angrier. "What do care? All he's ever done to you is ask you out. You hate him."

"Thank you for that description. of my feelings" I say sarcastically.

His eyes blaze with anger. " If you would kindly get out of my way I'll be going, it's almost past curfew." I say in a sweet voice.

"Yes, just run along you little mudblood." He said, pronouncing each letter of mudblood very carefully.

I smile sweetly. "Goodnight Severus." I side step him and walk out of the library.

I head back to my dormitory, shakimg my head. What a jerk I don't know why I never saw it before.

On my way I run into Remus who was coming for the great Hall after a late dinner.

"Hello Lily." He says looking up from his book.

"Hi, fancy walking to the common room with me?" I said tucking my own book under my arm.

"Sure." He says, and we set of to the Fat Lady's portrait.

"So tell me Lily, is it true that you went on a "Not Date" with the one and only James Potter, who happens to be one my best friends."

Remus was one of the only Marauder's that I have had positive interactions with. And I love him to death, except when he manages to ask those type of questions.

"It's true that I took a walk with him while we were both alone in Hogsmeade." I said trying to hold on to a shred of dignity.

We reached the portrait, and I said the password.

"How did he manages to land that one?" He laughed.

It took me a moment to relize that we were still having that conversation.

I opened my mouth to reply but be cut me off.

"Kidding Lily, I'm glad you went with him. He's been after you for years. Maybe he finally had a chance." I couldn't tell if he was joking.

"He most certainly does not have a chance. It was just a walk, I will never ever, like James Potter.

"Keep telling yourself that Lily." He said with a smirk and walked up to his dormitory
