A Broadway Adoption

Chapter 3: The Call Backs

After a few weeks of radio silence, I was over at Prez's house whenever we were going through our emails and noticed one in particular, it was from the director of Beetlejuice. As Prez and I looked over our emails, it turns out that we were both called back to audition for the same role.

"This is going to be so much fun! Can you image the both of us being on Broadway together?!" I had said to my best friend.

"It would be so much fun, all the backstage shenanigans and trouble we would cause, we would have to start a vlog to post!" Presley exclaimed with excitement. I sat there thinking of all the fun times we would have together, even if I didn't get a role or even ensemble I would always support my best friend. As we continued to talk about our callbacks and plan for the trip, I had asked the question,

"I wonder if all of the other characters have been filled, or if there are going to be more people there for callbacks?" I had pondered.

"I guess we'll find out whenever we get there." She replied to me.

Over the next few days we prepared and when the day finally came for our callbacks we headed into the Big Apple and looked at the songs we are going to be doing and I stared there in shock.

"Prez! It says we're going to be doing 'Say My Name' with the person who is playing Beetlejuice! How have they already casted him already?! Maybe it is just us two going for the same role, I don't know if I can do this, wha-" but I was cut off

"Lily! Relax! It's going to be fine, you've got this! Plus I wouldn't want to go up against anyone else for this role. I'm just glad that no matter who gets the role, it will be one of us." She replies calming me down.

"Now let's go take some ass!" She giggles as she quotes one of my favorite movies.

As we arrive at the movie theatre in a fit of giggles because of us acting stupid, I bumped into someone, but luckily I don't fall over.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," I say quietly,

"Looks like we have to stop meeting like this," the person laughs, "Hello guys, I'm Alex Brightman, I'll be playing yours truly, Beetlejuice!" he says with a smile.

Presley was the first one to respond, "Looks like you were right Lily, he did audition for Beetlejuice. I'm Presley Ryan and this person who keeps running into you is Lily Rogers." She says with a laugh.

"Are you guys excited to be getting callbacks for the role of Lydia?" Alex asks us.

I'm just only able to nod my head and continue to look down at the ground, and Prez decides to speak up again.

"We are super excited, and hope that one of us gets the role, but we are just grateful to have gotten callbacks." She says with a smile,

"Well how about we head inside then, so we won't be late," Alex says leading us inside the theatre. As we go to the same spots that Prez and I sat when we first auditioned, I see out of the corner of my eye someone sit next to me. When I glance over I see that Alex had sat down beside me, I couldn't help to get tensed up and move a bit closer to Prez. I wasn't used to be close to anyone besides her and her family, while doing this I notice Alex get a questioning look in his eyes, but he decided to not say anything. When it was time to start, we figured out that Prez and I were the only ones here that got call backs for the same character, they had already casted the other roles and let me say that this was a dream cast.

(Time skip to after their callbacks, because I don't know how to do it)

After we get done and go back to Presley's house, we talk about how the callbacks went and just started to goof around whenever we heard our phones go off at the same time. When we go over to look at them, we saw we both have an email from the company of Beetlejuice.

"We should open them together," Prez says, "and no matter who gets the role, there will never be any hard feelings. On the count of 3."

"1..."

"2..."

"3..!"

As I look through the email and read what it says, I heard Presley squeal besides me,

"I GOT THE ROLE OF LYDIA!! Wait Lily! That means you didn't get it, I'm so sorry!" Prez starts to apologize, but little does she know what's about to happen.

"PREZ! Calm down! It's fine! But guess what?! I got understudy of Lydia, and Sky!! It also says I'm ensemble!! We're going to be on Broadway together!! We have to go tell your parents!" I say in an excited voice.

Whenever we tell her parents both of our good news, they decided to celebrate the both of us by going out to dinner and then getting ice cream afterwards. When we get back, Prez and I head to bed, knowing we're going to have a completely new schedule and will be completely busy. With rehearsals starting next week, we have no idea what we are in for, and what shit will hit the fan in my life.
