Gym class wasn’t really my thing. I don’t exactly like to run or play soccer and all that but since it’s part of my grade I would have to. Though this time it’s not about playing soccer or running around the track. Yes, my teacher, Mr. Carter, had just asked us to get into groups to make up a dance to the song ‘Die Young’ by Kesha.
It’s not the song I don’t like, we all voted for that song, or the dancing that I hate, I don’t mind dancing. It’s just that I only have 2 friends in my class out of the 26 students there but the teacher asked us to get into groups of 5.
What is so horrible about getting into groups of five? Well, I’m not so popular among my classmates and sometimes if I don’t do anything, none of my friends do. Yes, even Ava needs a push sometimes. So I ended up asking around quickly to everyone I thought didn’t have a group yet, but not quickly enough.
The thing about my class is that they already assign themselves into groups in their heads once they hear the word ‘groups’. So no matter how fast you are in asking, they are already in a group. Now we have 26 students in our class right? 7 boys and 19 girls. Some groups were smaller or bigger than needed but Mr. Carter made sure it was close enough to equal. Though some of the people left over for us to choose wasn’t really my taste.
Lillian, Grace and Katherine. I don’t mind Grace and Katherine but Lillian really knows how to get on my nerves. She talks a lot, she screams a lot and who knows if that little devil gossips too? I can think of many names she had called me in the past and little ‘accidents’ that happened between us both.
There had to be another choice!
“Excuse me, Mr. Carter?” I walked up to my teacher. He was a tall, strong man with brown eyes. He had a short beard and he looked around his 40s. He’s a kind man in general, and very easy to talk to. “We don’t have a group of five” I explained, gesturing to my friends.
The teacher looked at us then nodded, “well then let’s get you one” he beckoned us to follow and walked straight in the direction of Lillian’s small group. Minimum was 4 people and apparently Mr. Carter is going to allow one group of 6.
“Here’s your group!” Mr. Carter said cheerfully, smiling at us, “I’m sure you all met before?” he joked. Even in a man in his 40s, he’s pretty funny. Not.
“Haha, I’m pretty sure” Katherine faked a laugh at the teacher’s poor joke. She turned to us and bowed sarcastically, “it’s a pleasure to meet you all” she said in a British accent. She had red hair, green eyes and was always in a cheery mood. She's very open minded to everyone and a very nice person to be with though even with a person like her I can't make friends with. Over all, I can deal with her.
“Ewwwww! Why do I have to be in a group with them?!” Lillian suddenly exclaimed, pointing right at me and Ava. Lillian despises both of us. I don’t know why though…
“It’s only one project” Mr. Carter said with ease, not noticing the rather obvious hostile look that Lillian gave me, “besides, I think you would be a great group! Have fun!” he waved at us good-bye before walking to monitor the other groups. No one else cared about what Lillian had said to me… not yet.
I can’t tell you how much I wanted to leave right now too. Just looking at Lillian makes me hater her all over again. She calls me ugly but I find her a lot more revolting than me. She barely cares if she hurts someone and her apologies were almost like insults themselves! I kept my mouth shut though and faked a smile at Lillian.
“So” Katherine clapped her hands together once, looking at all of us, “now that we are all together, how about we all suggest some dance moves?”
