Chapter 3: “Knowledge is Power”
The next couple of days went by okay I guess. I was right when I said Lillian was going to try to hurt me again but I ignored it the best I could. Though when I see her talking with Sally, I swear I felt like shoving her away from my friend. Sally wasn’t too pleased with being beside Lillian either and did her best to ignore her as well.
Lillian is like one of those popular girls around the school whose opinion affects everyone else’s. She may be a bitch to me but judging from the other people, she’s got thousands of friends to back her up if she needed to. Yeah, not so helpful if you wanted to argue with her.
Plus she has good grades too so I can’t go around and call her an idiot. It wouldn’t be helpful to my reputation anyways.
I sighed and closed my locker when I got everything. I was late today so everyone’s already in class but the first period teacher was always late too so it didn’t really matter. I banged my head on my locker once and winced slightly at the pain. Oh well, at least it helped me keep myself in line a bit.
“Well that’s not healthy” I heard a familiar voice next to me. I almost jumped as I turned to see who it was. Mason was leaning on the lockers just beside me with a big grin on his face.
Mason was a secret friend of mine, my only friend that is a boy in this class. I know I said I only have two friends but Mason is one to consider. I doubt anyone knows about our friendship, we play it cool in front of everyone else so it stayed that way. It’s fun playing sneaky with Mason… not in that way. Sneaky as in just exchanging short conversations. He’s one of the boys that I can talk a lot easier to.
He has wavey brown hair that goes up a little at the end. His eyes were sea green and he had nicely tanned skin. He wore a black Roots hoodie and dark blue jeans today. He’s really cute and funny, and I’ve already titled him as the class clown in my head. He has a very happy-go-lucky personality for a guy like him.
“Yeah, well, Lillian drives me crazy sometimes okay?” I growled at him but there was a hint of playfulness in my voice.
We met in middle school, in grade 7. Our middle school only goes from grade 6 to 8 sadly but I’m glad we can still continue this little friendship in high school as well. He’s in my class and is also currently in my group for a science project.
“Eh?” He pushed himself off from the lockers, “what happened this time?”
He’s like a big brother to me I tell you. Someone I could talk to about my problems without worrying what he may think. Of course Ava and Sally are my first choice but if I ever need a humorous clown boy to cheer me up, he’s my man. I’m glad he doesn’t take my problems so seriously like others do. Instead of piling me with questions, he focuses more on cheering me up instead. Yeah, I know I sound crazy thinking like this but sometimes I just need a hug, no?
“She pissed me off in gym a couple of days ago and made up some rumor that I was the one who started it” I mumbled, gripping my binders hard, “now everyone thinks I’m a short tempered, no good piece of crap”
“Hey hey” Mason patted me on the shoulder, “don’t say that. There are people that know you a lot better than anyone else. They won’t believe Lillian for one second.”
I looked at him and stifled a sigh, “you can say that but high school has a lot of new kids and they don’t know me that well yet. Even some people in my class would believe Lillian all the way. For example, Rose” I pointed behind me with a thumb as if Rose was there but I knew she’s at class now.
Mason sighed and looked at the pictures on display at the top of our class lockers.
We were in the CyberArts program. You know, with all of the artsy stuff we do? Everyone in my class was talented in art or technology in some way. I’d say I’m more talented in art than technology, one of the best even.
