"What did she say?" Jackson asked his son quickly, sensing his Alpha's need to know whatever was happening. The Luna hadn't made any attempt to communicate with anyone in the pack in any way aside from the growls and warnings of her wolf. The only positive communications she had made were the soft purrs she would hum towards his son while he rested against her fur, so if she had spoken to his son the Alpha needed to know immediately. "James?" the Delta asked again, trying to get the attention of his son who was now on his feet and exchanging glances with the wolf. Jackson winced as he felt his Alpha try to hold in his growls as he watched the young pack member communicate with his mate, the father needed to get his son to let them know what was happening before something drastic happened.
Why didn't she tell him what? The Alpha felt his wolf roaring in his head, the build up of rage intensifying knowing that his mate could communicate in her wolf form but had just chosen not to. He had never felt ill will towards the Moon Goddess in his many years of life, but for once he cursed as he wished the Goddess had made the mate bond instantaneous for both sides. He knew he loved her already, he especially admired how strong-willed she was even if he hated it. There was no doubt in his mind she would be a Luna of legends, she would bow down to no one and fiercely protect their pack until her last breath. She was incredible and he didn't even know her name because she wouldn't fucking shift. He was doing everything he could to stop himself from breaking, but he knew he was almost at his limit. If he didn't get control of his wolf or if his mate didn't start acting like the Luna and mate she had the potential to be, he was going to lose it and his mate and pack would suffer greatly.
"What did she say James?" Alpha Pearce's voice growled through the field, giving Jackson whiplash as his head swiveled in shock to look at his leader. While he was a strong and tough leader who was known to break his men on accident during training, he never had once used such a tone on a child of the pack. Chase stiffened as he realized that his Alpha was closer to his breaking point than he had been letting on, and the Beta felt his heart stop as his worry for the Luna intensified. If the Alpha broke, he wasn't sure how the Luna was going to be treated.
"James!" The Alpha barked, baring his teeth at the boy and feeling his gums itch as his wolf tried to bare its jaws at the boy at well. He watched the boy's face pale dramatically in both fear and shock, but then growled as the boy was hidden from his view as the Luna stepped in between them. His wolf bristled as it took in her defensive stance for the boy, her form tense and ready to strike if any of the men came near them. That was his damn pack member he wouldn't actually hurt the boy! His mate shouldn't be standing in between him and the child, she belonged in his bed and writhing under him.
"She said she will shift Alpha!" the boy yelled out, upset that his voice was cracking in fear but not able to help his fear. The men all stilled as they turned towards each other, faces full of shock and bewilderment. "She said what?" Chase finally asked, voicing the only thought of the Alpha and his warriors as they tried to look at the child who was still behind the wolf. She had agreed to shift? What had caused her change of heart? Alpha Pearce realized that he didn't care, all he cared about was that he could finally see what his mate looked like and hopefully finally learn her name.
"Yeah! She said she will shift as soon as you walk her to the border! She said she would love to shift as soon as she crosses the territory so she can wave goodbye with her middle finger!" James exclaimed, happy that his Alpha was no longer glaring at him. He turned back to face his Luna, "where are you from? I don't know anybody that waves goodbye with only a finger! Is that how your family waves or just you?" It wasn't clear if the Luna was planning on responding to James again or not, but it didn't matter because she wouldn't have had the chance to respond if she wanted to.
