The idea that all truth is revealed through death is a dark idea. But no matter how dark it is, it is completely true. You can spend days, months, years, your entire life in fact, running from something, but through death it will catch up to you. You just won't be alive to see it.

Thoughts run through your head. They range from family memories to secret glances from your crush. In the end, all the thoughts that run through your head are once of love and joy and laughter. Those thoughts however are interrupted by your beloved siblings trying their hardest to not let you go.

"Y/N! You can't leave us!" Izzy sobbed clutching your hand.

"You were supposed to be the one to make it out alive..." Alec cried. He was holding you close to his chest. He refused to let you go. You were his baby sister, it was his job to keep you safe and he failed.

"Hey," you smile weakly reaching a hand up to his face. "You did everything you could."

"No, N/N, I could have done so much better. It's not fair."

Jace had ran into the room towards the end of your life. He was too busy trying to fend off the downworlders that attacked you. When he saw you, he froze. You were cradled in Alec's arms with Izzy by your side while Clary and Simon stood to the side holding each other. They didn't know what they could do, they couldn't think clearly, but they did know that right now you only needed your siblings.

"Y/N," Jace breathed.

You had heard his quiet voice through the loud crying that surrounded you. You turned your head to look at the only man you've ever loved. Of course no one knew this but him and you. You chuckled painfully at the thought as you turned your head towards him.

Jace inched closer slowly, scared if he went faster than you'd leave quicker. He knelt down next to you in front of his parabatai and the girl he loved like a sister.

"Y/N, you can't leave me," he whined as he took your other hand that had fallen to your side. "We still have so much we need to do! We still need to go on that stargazing adventure and we need to go and find Altantis!"

You laughed weakly at that statement. You had watched Altantis: The Lost Empire recently during a secret movie date and you had been determined that you'd find Atlantis before you died and Jace had promised to go with you. After all, if vampires and werewolves existed why couldn't Atlantis.

"You're just gonna have to do it for me, Honey." you sighed squeezing his hand.

If Alec was fully aware of what was happening around him, he probably would have made a comment about the interaction, but now was not the time. He was losing his baby sister and he couldn't do anything to stop it.

"But that's your dream, not mine. Mine was you," Jace cried. "My dream was to live a happy and long life with you. Have kid's get away from being shadowhunters and live normal lives. Get away from the legacy of my father and the politics of the shadow world. We would've been happy!"

"Oh Jace," you say, lifting your hand to cup his cheek which he leans into and holds. "We were happy... I am happy. We had a great time together and I wouldn't regret it for the life of me. My life has been short, but it has been epic."

"There has to be something we can do! This wasn't supposed to happen like this!" Jace yelled. He looked up at Alec for the first time. Alec met his eyes but shook his head. Your wound to the stomach was fatal. It was a miracle you had held on this long.

"Jace, look at me." you mumbled breathing slowly.

Jace turned his head down to you knowing time was running out.
