Once they got to the pond, Katniss jumped in, and started swimming, Peeta just sat and watched. "Come in!" She exclaimed. "I'm good," he told her. She swam around a little bit, then she said, "Come in, Peeta...," Then he heard he gasp for air. "Peeta!" She yelled. "Peeta, help me!" She yelled in between gasps for air. Peeta looked up, but didn't see her. "Katniss, Katniss, do you hear me?" He yelled, there was no response. "Katniss?" He yelled again, he didn't see her. She reappeared again a few moments later, struggling for air. She went under as quickly as she came up. "Peeta!" She yelled returning to the surface, then disappearing again. He ran towards the water, taking off his shirt, and quickly dove in after her. He couldn't find her, "Katniss?" He yelled again, as he came to the surface. She came up and then went under again. He dove under after her, he saw her, grabbed her, and swam to the surface to catch a breath of air. He quickly recovered and swam to the edge of the water, and brought her ashore.

He carried her up to land, she wasn't breathing. He put her hands on her chest and started pushing up and down. "Katniss, please wake up, I need you," he said. He blew air into her mouth and started pushing again. He grabbed her wrist, and held it, there was a weak pulse. He did it again, pressure over the heart, and then a breath. After a minute, he saw her eyes flutter a little, and then heard her cough.

When she woke up, she sat up, and leaned over and started coughing and gasping for air trying to regain a steady breath. "Katniss, you're okay, I was so worried," he told her with tears in her eyes, who she has never seen cry. "Now don't go and cry on me!" She told him. "You're okay!" He repeated, hugging her. "How did you know to do that?" She asked him, knowing he did chest compressions to revive her. "Finnick had taught me," he told her. "What happened?" He asked her. "I felt something pulled me under, but I couldn't see what it was," She told him. "We should take you back to your mother," Peeta said. "No, I'm fine!" She told him. "No, Katniss you're not fine. Do you call almost drowning in a pond fine?" He asked in a harsh tone. She knew it was only the fear talking. "Who's going to take me, you? I don't think so, you're tired out now," she told him. "I will, if that means you're safe!" he exclaimed. "I'm safe when I'm with you," she told him. "Fine, we'll stay," he said reluctantly, lying down. She laid her head on his chest and looked up at the stars.

They stayed there for twenty minutes, before Peeta asked, "Would you like something to eat?" "Sure!" She said. He went to go start a fire, and then he got the picnic basket, which was secure, hanging from a tree and a lock on it so no animals will get it. He opened it and took out a few things. He took out some bread and pastries, also he took out a bottle. She instantly knew what it was, fresh homemade wine.

He poured some into a cup and gave some to her. She took a sip of it, "This is good," She told him. "It was made from the finest grapes, I grew them," he said to her. "It must have taken forever to grow, and where did you get the seed?" She asked. "While we were in the seventy-fourth Games, I saw the plant and I recognized it and I kept it, when we got back to the District, I planted it," he told her. "This is really good, where did you learn to make it?" She asked. "I taught myself," he told her. Then he said, "I substituted the alcohol though," There was no response, just silence, starring into the fire. "Did you give Haymitch some?" She asked. "Yes, but I figured that he would be able to tell if there wasn't any alcohol in it, so I put some in," he said. She just smiled at him. A moment of silence fell upon them, all went silent.

"Is there something on your mind?" She asked, breaking the silence. "Yeah, but it's nothing," he told her. "What is it?" She asked. "It's nothing," he said. Then she realized what he was hiding from her. "Do you know why I fainted?" She asked, knowing his answer. He just starred at the ground, away from her.
