The Sky is Falling

"Kelly, hey," I open the door, surprised to see him, "you ready to go?" He smiles. "I thought I told you that my car is back from the shop," I remind him, "I know, but what's one last time?" He shrugs, "okay you convinced me," I grab my bag and follow him to his car. 

"But I drive this time," I say once we get to the car. 

"No chance" he chuckles, walking over to the driver's seat, "okay, see you at the firehouse then" I walk to my car but he pulls me back. "Fine you convinced me" he imitates me, "thank you" I take the keys from him and get into the driver's seat.

"I have missed the feeling of a steering wheel" I run my fingers over the harsh leather, "okay stop feeling up my steering wheel and drive please" he climbs into the passenger seat. "I haven't driven for like over a week now so don't rush me" I remind him, "like that's supposed to mean something to me" he shrugs, "drive" he orders.

"Yes, Lieutenant" I joke as he rolls his eyes. 

I start the car and get on the road. 

"So I rented out fight club and the notebook for us to watch," he tells me, "rented? As in DVD?" I question as he nods. "You know you can find it online right?" I point out, "yeah well I am old-fashioned" he defends, "you could have stopped at old" I tease as he nudges me.

"Anyway, when do you want to watch it?" he questions.

"How's after shift?" I suggest, "I can't" he replies, "plans with Alex?" I question, "yes" he nods. "Oh is it getting serious now?" I tease so it seems like I am not bothered, "you know I don't do serious" he answers.

That's kind of the issue.

"How's the night after?" I change the topic.

"Sounds good" he agrees. 

"You spoke with Chilli?" He asks, "you mean after she basically told me to eat dirt at Molly's" I reply, "no I haven't and I don't really want to until she actually decides to get her act together" I focus on the road. 

"What about Otis?" He brings up. 

"Yes please keep on listing the people who want nothing to do with me," I huff. 

"I would have thought Otis would be talking to you by now" he mumbles, not knowing that I heard him defend me at Molly's and I definitely can't bring it up.

"He knows I'm here whenever he is ready" I shrug as we reach the firehouse. 

"Thank you for not crashing my car" I hand him the keys as we walk to the lockers, "your car is so much smoother to drive than mine" I comment, "can we swap?" I joke.

"Keep walking candidate" he chuckles as we go our separate ways. 

"Heard about what happened outside Molly's" Gabby comments as I walk over, "I don't know what happened" I sigh, "one minute she tells us she is going to get her act together and the next minute she is back to where she started" I start to get changed. 

"I am going to tell you what I told Brett," Gabby says, "there is nothing more we can do for her" she states. 

"We can't just leave her though" I defend.

"Yeah, but what can we do?" Gabby questions, "she fights us every time we try to help" she points out. "She is not making it easy" I agree, "but we need to still help her" I add, "we can't ditch her" I state as we finish getting changed.

"I just don't know how much more of this Chief is going to handle" Gabby mentions as we walk to the kitchen, "I mean she is on her second strike and if she gets one more then-" she starts, "he'll fire her" I finish for her.
