Patton walked into his and Virgil's room after dinner was over. "Virgey?" He heard a small grunt come from under the covers and smiled. He sat on the bed. "What's wrong? You've been acting off today."
Virgil stuck his head out of the covers. "Logan smells so off and it's really bothering me. I can't shake the feeling they're lying about something, but I can't figure out what it is they're lying about. I really like them though, and I don't want to believe that they'd lie..." He bit his lip, deciding to omit the part where he'd gone into Logan and Roman's room.
Patton kissed his forehead. "Well, even if they're lying, is it our place to know? They've been really good roommates Virgey."
"Of course it's our place to know! We live with them!"
"So that means we just get to know all of their secrets?"
Virgil sighed and sat up, the covers falling from his shoulders. "But what if they're lying about important things? Like if they committed any crimes or something like that?"
"Do they really seem to you like the kind of people to commit any sort of a crime?" Patton tilted his head and smiled fondly, amused by his mate's extremely overactive imagination. Others might find his constant worrying bothersome, but Patton found it beyond endearing. It was sweet, how much he cared.
"No, but still. They might've. Roman might've done a crime by accident. Or quite possibly on purpose. I could see it going either way."
Patton laughed softly. "They haven't done anything since moving in with us. They've been good roommates, and good friends even. If they're lying about anything, which I doubt they are, it doesn't change that they've paid their part of the rent on time, helped pay for food, and been really nice to us, right?"
Virgil sighed. "I guess not. But it would change whether we locked our door at night or not."
Patton shook his head and laughed softly. "If it's really bothering you, just ask them about it. They might be honest with you and tell you the truth."
Virgil frowned. "Do you really think asking them would cause them to confess?"
"I don't know why it wouldn't. Now that they know us better they might be more open. If Roman somehow accidentally did a crime and is now on the run from Johnny Law, they might be willing to tell you at this point. And maybe they'll just laugh and say that they're not lying. Then you'd know." He brushed Virgil's fringe out of his face.
"All I would know is what they've told me, which might just be more lies."
Patton shrugged. "It wouldn't hurt. It might help to calm your nerves a little bit." He ran a hand through Virgil's hair and kissed his forehead. "You're overthinking it all. Logan might smell weird, but he doesn't smell like murder, does he? Unless he killed a lemon or something, but I wouldn't really blame him if he did that, they're so sour." He mused for a second. "If lemons were sweet, they'd be the perfect fruit, wouldn't they? But they're sour, so I don't like them at all, so I wouldn't even be angry with Logan if he murdered one. Well, when life gives you lemons."
Virgil sighed, ignoring his rant about lemons since it wasn't relevant in any sense of the word. "Maybe you're right. They're probably not crimials, I'm just being stupid."
"Not stupid. Worried." Patton kissed his cheek. "Everything is going to be fine. Even if they're lying, which they're probably not, it isn't the end of the world, okay?"
Virgil nodded. "Okay."
Patton smiled and held him close. "I love you Virgey. It's cute how worried you are."
Virgil scoffed and leaned against him. "I love you too."
Patton kissed him softly. "I love you more."
"I love you most."
"I love you mostest."
Virgil rolled his eyes, smiling softly. "Fine, you can win this once."
Patton kissed his cheek. "Good. Do you want to go get some dessert?"
Virgil grinned and wiggled his eyebrows. Patton tilted his head, causing Virgil to laugh. "Yeah, sure Pat."
