Patton came home to his apartment after a long day at work, and was immediately greeted with the smell of thirteen different scented candles and some incense, the sound of people having sex, and a tv show with the volume all the way up, presumably to block out the sex sounds. He looked into the living room and saw Virgil, curled under a blanket with his eyes fixed on the tv, though he didn't seem to be paying attention to it. He sat next to Virgil on the couch. "Honey?"
Virgil looked at him and immediately crawled into his lap. "They lied." He mumbled, curling against him. "Logan's an omega."
Patton turned the tv off and kissed Virgil's forehead. "Are you sure?" Virgil nodded.
"He went into heat today. I saw him."
Patton nodded and held him close. "What do you want to do Virgey?"
Virgil shrugged. "I told Roman he could take care of Logan, and then... I guess we get new roommates?"
Patton looked at him. "Does it bother you that much that they lied?"
"I don't know, I just... what else are they lying about then? And remember, we didn't want an omega, they're too much work!"
"Logan hasn't been any work so far Virgey. Maybe he's more independent than a normal one."
Virgil curled up against him. "What do you think we should do Patton?"
Patton thought for a moment. "I dunno. They've been really good roommates. And I've taken quite a liking to them.... I'd like to talk to them about it before we make a decision, I think."
Virgil nodded. "That makes sense I guess."
Patton kissed his forehead. "How much does it bother you, that they've lied?"
Virgil furrowed his brows. "Not as much as I thought it would, I guess. I actually kind of feel better knowing for sure, instead of constantly worrying about it. I don't think that they're murderers, surprisingly. Criminals, maybe, murderers, no."
Patton laughed softly. "I'm glad you're not worrying so much, at least."
Virgil looked at him. "Does it bother you?"
Patton shrugged. "A little of course. I don't like that they hid things from us. But I want to know why they did before just jumping to conclusions. We did say we didn't want an omega, maybe they just couldn't find any place that did. But they're really nice, and I've enjoyed being able to have date nights with you again." He thought for a moment. "Do you think Logan's in danger living with us?"
"I don't know. We are mated, and I don't know Roman would ever leave him alone if he thought Logan wouldn't be safe... it's hard to say, I guess. I don't know how we'd react to his scent."
"Didn't you say you saw him in heat today? Surely you smelt him too."
Virgil bit his lip. "I did."
"So you do know how we'd react, or at least how you would.'
Virgil looked down. "It was... hard. Really hard. Every part of me just wanted to... y'know."
"But you didn't, right?"
"Yeah. I don't know if it was because I'm mated, or just that I was so shocked... and he looked like he was in pain Patton."
Patton looked at him. "Pain?"
"Yeah. Do omegas usually seem like they're in pain in heat?"
"I've never seen one Virgey. Maybe." Patton frowned. "Aren't there a few documentaries on it? We could watch one while we wait for his heat to be over. How long are heats?"
Virgil frowned. "Uh, I don't know. Like a week?"
Patton pulled out his phone and googled it. "It says here that they can be anywhere from an hour to a month, depending on the age, sex, and health of the omega, how many pups they've had, if they're mated or not, how strong their partner's scent is, the season, what the weather is like, the last thing they ate, how often they exerci-"
"So we have no way of knowing." Virgil interrupted, laying back.
"Ooh, here's a website that will calculate the length!"
Virgil sighed. "Okay, let's try it."
Patton clicked onto the website. "Okay. He is a male, twenty years old, no pups-"
"That we know of."
"Alpha partner-"
"Supposedly."
"Fall. Do we know how often he goes into heat?"
"What kind of question is that?"
"Fair enough, unknown frequency. Does he take medication?"
"Yes Patton."
"Ooh, there are options. What kind of medication?"
"Progesterone and estradiol."
Patton hummed as he scrolled, then frowned. "How did you know that?"
"Hm?" Virgil froze as he realized what he said. "Oh, well, um, Logan told me. It slipped out, I think, he was talking about how Roman needed to get him refills of them. Maybe the heat made him forget he didn't want to share, I don't know."
"When was this?" Patton frowned.
"This morning. I actually woke up before you and had some toast, Logan was up too, but then I went back to bed. I don't know what it's for though, so if it asks you that..." He trailed off, nearly holding his breath.
Patton laughed softly. "Oh, is that all? For a moment I was worried you'd interrogated the poor thing. And don't worry, it has the purpose of the medication in parentheses on here."
Virgil sat up. "It does?"
"Sure, let me go to the p's... pronagene, prolac, what was it again?"
"Progesterone." Virgil tapped his finger on his thigh.
"Okay, here it is. Progesterone, for fertile health or transitioning."
"Transitioning?"
"Oh you know, how some betas change classes so they can have pups or impregnate their partner, that sort of thing."
Virgil frowned. "Oh."
"What was the other one?"
"Estradiol."
Patton quickly scrolled to the e's. "Estradiol, do you know what kind? There are like, five."
"No, I don't know."
"Okay, I'll just choose the first one, it says it's for reproductive health which I guess goes with the other one. What's his favorite color?"
Virgil looked at him. "What?"
"The last question says 'and just for funsies, what's your favorite color :)?'"
Virgil put his face in his hands. "I think his favorite color is blue."
"Oh, mine too!" Patton looked through the options. "Light or dark?"
"Oh my god Patton, does it matter?"
Patton tutted. "I'll put dark, since my favorite is light. Well, more pastelly, but you know... okay, it says his heat will probably last about two weeks, unless he's been eating a lot of protein recently, then it'll last three weeks, or if his medication's been changing a lot it might be shorter."
Virgil groaned. "So we still don't know?"
"It'll probably be around two weeks Virgey. At least it's a ballpark number." He kissed Virgil's forehead. "Which means we get two weeks or so to think it all over."
Virgil leaned against him. "I guess."
Patton smiled and looked at the tv. "Mated at First Sight? Really?"
Virgil flushed. "I-I wasn't paying attention to it!"
Patton laughed and pulled him close. "Okay Virgey, whatever you say."
