Chapter 20: A New Beginning

A few weeks later, the gang—Go Go, Wasabi, Honey, [F/N] and Fred—wait at one of Aunt Cass's cafe tables for Hiro.

Speak of the devil, Hiro comes bounding over to their table, a huge smile on his face as he waves at them. They all greet him back enthusiastically and [F/N] stands up to give her boyfriend a big, littering his face with kisses. He immediately becomes red and laughs like a dork as she spins herself around under his arm and starts to follow the others outside the cafe.

Before Hiro can tag along, Aunt Cass stops to give him a hug goodbye and hands him his lunch bag. As Hiro is about to walk away, he surprises his aunt by giving her another hug and rushing back out the door.

The friends start making their way to college, and since it was a weekend [F/N] was able to tag along with them. As Fred starts raving about some nerd thing and chewing out Go Go's ears, [F/N] and Hiro have a "flirt war" behind them, poking and teasing at one another.

[F/N] gives up after Hiro pecks a quick kiss to her lips and she ends up punching his arm instead, saying, "Feel my love, dork!"

Which Hiro responds with, "I think a kiss back would've been more ideal."

All the while, Honey was taking pictures of them with a giggle while showing them off to everyone, embarrassing the two lovebirds as they quickly try to take her phone and erase the images.

Once Hiro makes it to his lab—which used to be his brother's—he sets Tadashi's cap on a lamp and starts unpacking all his stuff, starting with the box holding Baymax's fist. Hiro stares down at it with a bittersweet expression, lifting it out of its packaging, and placing it next to his framed photos of him and his family, along with one or two of him and [F/N] and his friends. Hiro gently pats the hand and lets out a short chuckle before fist bumping it and twinkling his fingers above his head.

"Bah-la-la-la," Hiro said plainly, turning around to head back to unpacking before something blue in the palm of the hand catches his eye.

Hiro walks back over and opens up the hand, his breath hitching in the back of his throat.

There, in Baymax's fist, was his nurse chip.

Hiro couldn't believe his eyes. He smiled in excitement and held the chip close to him, while yelling and shouting in delight. He then stopped abruptly, ideas on how to re-build Baymax coursing through his brain. He had to get to work.

After a couple failed tries and mishaps, Hiro finally finished building Baymax.

Hiro paced around his lab while waiting for [F/N] to arrive.

Finally, a knock to his lab sent his heart reeling and he ran over to it, skidding to an abrupt halt. "[F/N]!" He exclaimed, looking extremely excited.

[F/N] giggled and tried peaking inside the room, her brow raised curiously. "What is it? What did you make? I really wanna know, Hiro! Tell me! Tell me! Tell me!"

Hiro chuckles and raises his finger to calm her down. "How about I show you instead?"

[F/N] only eyes Hiro suspiciously as he gently takes her hand and walks her inside his lab.

[F/N]'s eyes widened to the size of saucers. Standing right before was a deactivated Baymax.

"Holy moly ..." She breathes out.

Hiro smiles and walked up next to her. "I know right? Took me weeks to build. But thanks to Tadashi's leftover work, I got it down quicker than him."

[F/N] slowly walks over to the robot and rests her hand on his stomach, giggling happily.

"Hiro ... he looks exactly the same!"

"Because he is."

[F/N] looks over to Hiro in question. "What? You mean ... he'll still remember us."

Hiro's smile spreads and he looks up to Baymax proudly. "Only one way to find out."

[F/N] bites her lip nervously and stands behind Hiro just in case anything crazy happened.

Hiro took in a deep breath of faith before saying, "Ow?"

Slowly, Baymax's round black eyes opened as he looked down at Hiro and [F/N].

"I am Baymax. Your personal healthcare companion. Hello, Hiro and [F/N]."

Hiro rakes a hand through his thick hair in awe as [F/N]'s jaw falls. The two glance back forth between one another and Baymax, laughing with joy as they run into Baymax in a group hug. The giant robotic nurse leans down and hugs them back, closing his eyes in a happy gesture to see the two again.

And their adventures don't and won't end there.
