I slowly turn around, for what I believe would be the end of me. I turn to see nothing....?
"Look up" the voice demands.
I look up to see...
"Yata?" I look up to see Yata standing on the roof.
"What, my bird is talking?" I'm confused
"I've been able to speak and understand you since you found me" Yata starts to explain, I'm still visibly confused.
"It must have come from what happened to you." I answer."What's your connection with this place?"
"You made a terrible mistake James." Yata says to me.
"Your world is now linked with hundreds of roaming spirits, each with its own power to destroy." He says to me still perched on the roof
"The essence?" I ask it
"They are not essence James, they are spirits. Some even demons, and they are dangerous." He swiftly swoops down from the roof the ground in front of me.
"I thought letting them go would set them free?" I question
"The spirits of the people are free, but the essence themselves have minds of their own. They are devious and powerful, they have to be destroyed." He answers
"So what your saying is.... I just let loose hundreds of powerful spirits and... I have to stop them?" I ask
"Something like that... I know this is new to you, but for me as well. I was one of the first victims of the cultist. I don't even remember my own name"
Yata looks down at the floor in sadness as he struggles to remember. He flies to my shoulder and speaks again."The last thing I remember from the day I became a crow is that.... my soul never went on to the afterlife. He kept me engaged because of my immense power. I escaped however, that's when I met you James." It sighs.
"What are you...?"
Yata answers with " I am the Yatagarasu, the one the wizard has been trying to create for years. The power of human will, the ultimate power I formed was all he wanted."
He gives out another sigh and continues."After my escape I've been plotting to destroy his works, but I was too late, he created another spirit with even more power."
"How long have you been trying to stop him?" I ask
"Ever since you found me.... James we have to hurry, if that crow finds its host. This world won't last."
"What's it's power?"
He answers reluctantly " that is beyond my own knowledge, who knows what power he could of had."
"And your power?" I ask my last question
"I don't quite remember the whole use of it, but I can create illusions that become so real, they can hurt the dreamer affected. Trap them in an alternate reality or a dream per say"
"This is not making sense..." I sigh
"It'll be a little hard to follow James, this won't be easy bu-"
A siren goes off behind me
"You got a lot of explaining to do kid"
An officer rolls down his windows and confronts me."Officer you gotta believe me!" I explain what happened in the house.
"Wait you don't see the cr-" I panic as I see the world around my turn a shade of dark red.
"W-what's going on right now!?" I ask Yata.
"This is my power James" The officer sits there, dazed, as like he is in some sort of trance. Then the officer wakes up suddenly.
"Alright kid, don't be staying out this late. Go on and head home" the officer demands. The lights on the car go off as he steps on his pedal and drives off into the foggy night.
"Didn't he hear my story?" I ask. Yata looks at me with a serious look, for a bird at least.
"You can not tell anyone about the cultist, they wouldn't understand. If you tell anyone it's sure to only bring more trouble." Yata flies to the mail box and sits himself on it.
"James, we have to destroy the other birds." He looks to me.
"And how will I do that....?" I ask
"With my power."
Yata and I head home and rest for the night. The next day 2/8/18
The sun is shining through my curtains. I look over to see my alarm clock, the time is 12:35.
I look into Yata's cage, he's gone. I wonder what he's off to doing without me... or maybe I just had a bad dream?
I open up the window and I'm surprised to see an empty road. It's Saturday.
I hear some talking from downstairs, I go by my bedroom door to listen."Mrs Elliot, we have recently discovered that one of the residents children in the area have gone missing." I hear a man say in a familiar voice.
"I have no idea what your talking about officer, a child is missing?" I hear my mom ask the man
"Yes, Layla valentine. She hasn't come home since Friday."
A chill runs up my body.
