-A Naps Chapter-

My eyelids burst open at the sudden new sound. There was a deep rumbling outside my house and so I quickly dashed to my window to check what was going on. Oh no, not now. This had been coming for me for a long time now. I-

~~~ 5 months before ~~~
'Hello! I'm Patricia Laurens. I am a 14-year-old previously living in London. Sure, I used to live in New York, but I moved when I was about 5 years old so I have very few memories of it. I-'
I looked at my card and sighed. Why did we have to move? I was settled here in London, but Dad's job caused us to have to move for the second time in my life. It meant I'd have to leave my friends behind. I blinked and continued to write.
'I was born in New York, obviously, in 2020. I'm looking forward to making lots of new friends here in Frylapis.'
I'm sure you want an explanation. Well, Frylapis is this big new country that's been formed up in Asia. Literally up, considering that it was designed to maintain its placement in the clouds roughly above the Thailand Coastline. To make a living in the new nation, we were moving over there while we still could.
I folded the paper into a paper aeroplane and directed it into the bin. I needed to start again. I shook my head. What I really needed to do was write letters to my friends before I left. I got my flame pen out; this kind of letter should be written in flames. I turned on the pen and began to write.
Dear Theodosia,
What to say to you. Hm, well I suppose I should begin by telling you that I'm gonna be heading up to Frylapis in a week or two to join the new nation. I'm really sorry and if I had a choice I wouldn't be going and I'm really gonna miss you, K?
My flame pen, spitting out a controller flame onto my paper in the form of my writing had cut very nicely into the paper. Theodosia had been my friend for many long years and it was really sad to have to let her go. I folded the letter and stuffed it into an envelope. I looked at the letter. I suppose I'll just post it now, I guess. I clicked my fingers. Without a moment's length, Gary, my personalised assistant, appeared before me.
PAs are basically the sensation these days. By getting a chip placed into your brain, you can have a little companion that only you can see gives you the ability to find out and do things a lot more easily.
"Send this to Theo," I said, holding up the envelope. Gary, a cyan racoon with frogs legs and human(ish) arms, looked towards me in irritation. Whilst his face only showed minimal emotional, his top hat becomes a dark red upon the beginning of his discomfort.
"A please would be nice," Gary mumbled, snatching the letter from me. He rolled his eyes. "Will that be all, your majesty?" He asked sarcastically. Before I had the chance to say anything, he disappeared in a puff of smoke. I hated Gary almost as much as I liked the convenience of being able to teleport letters.
You see, PAs can communicate information to one another to such a degree that a physical duplicate of an item can go from one person to another in a form of teleportation. For whatever reason, they could interact with real-world objects which is fun when you're with other people and they just see a cookie flying in the air. At this point, though, everyone's used to it.
I switched on the TV. A new episode of Spongebob was on. After the guy who voiced Mr Krabs died, the show really took a weird turn and actually noted his death as a plot point. Whilst I didn't watch Spongebob that often, it intrigued me immensely. There were an entire three episodes dedicated to grief. How times change.
Anyway, I hadn't even got to the end of the theme song when suddenly Gary tapped me on the shoulder, holding a box which was clearly the way to heavy for him. I picked up the box. Hm, what could this be?
Suddenly I could hear Baby Shark Version 6 Volume 2. My brother wandered into my bedroom. He was 5. I would've hoped that such an obsession with Baby Shark would've died by this age. I stopped liking it when I was 3. I rolled my eyes and continued to unwrap the box. My brother, Miles, just watched in awe, sitting down beside me.
When the box was open, I found a wooden board. What could this possibly be. I placed it flat on the ground. There was a red, plastic button in the centre of the board. "Where's this from?"
Gary shrugged his shoulders. "Some guy called Squidward." He replied before disappearing. Did he just say- I looked down at the board, noticing my brother's hand on the button.
"No-!" I cried out as he pressed down on it. The air around us suddenly became a lot colder and all of my possessions started to fall away from my walls as the world around my brother and I began to go dark. I placed my hand over my brother's eyes and closed mine.
Before I knew it, I could hear the call of birds. I opened my eyes.
"Welcome to LIFE!" Chuckled the dog before me. Oh. My. God. It was Goofy. Was I hallucinating? I hadn't seen Goofy since I went to Disney Land. And even with that, this time he was very clearly a living, breathing person.
I let go of my grasp from my brother. He looked up at Goofy and proceeded to hug his leg. I passed out.
