Chapter 1- The break up.

1 year after initiation (there is no war)

Tris

Something has been wrong lately between me and Tobias. I don't what it is. I have a feeling he feels it too. I don't feel that spark that I felt before. I continue walking until I arrive at our apartment. Tobias sits with his head in his hands. I creep up behind him and hug him.

"Hello handsome!"

"Hello beautiful!"

He pecks my lips, his lips are so familiar.

"Did you miss me?" I inquire

"Why wouldn't I?" He looks hurt

"No reason, awww don't look so sad!" I kiss his forehead.

"Look Tris we need to talk."

"I know."

Tobias

I have been dreading this all day. I don't know how to tell her. I just don't feel it anymore. 

"So." She looks me in the eyes.

"Tris I think you've felt this too."

"Yep, it's not what it was before." She murmurs

I sigh

"Yes." I hold her chin with my fingers.

"What do you think we should do?"

"I don't want to say it."

"I think it's for the best. I'm sorry Tris."

"Yeah." I see her eyes fill with tears and feel mine too

"Are you crying?"

"Yes.. I mean No... I got an eyelash stuck in my eye..." I make up.

"It's for the better."

"Yep."

"What are we gonna do apartment about your apartment ?"

"I still have my old apartment, I let zeke hold parties sometimes."

"Oh ok, I'll help you take your stuff tomorrow."

"You don't have to..." 

"Don't worry about it."

Tris

We did it. We broke up. I don't know how I feel.

"Let's go get some dinner?" I suggest

"Sure." I'm pretty sure I saw his lip quiver.

We arrive at the cafeteria. Before we enter turn to Tobias 

"Should we tell them?" I whisper to Tobias.

"It's only fair."

"Yeah."

I squeeze his hand one last time, let go and step in.

"FOURTRIS!" Christina squeals across the hall.

I break into tears and run out of the cafeteria. I don't stop until I get to the secret spot by the chasm.

Tobias

"What did I say?" Christina asks.

"Guys we have news." I announce

"By your Facial expression and Tris's reaction ,I have a feeling it isn't good news." Zeke points out.

"We broke up."

The whole group goes quiet. I sit down and stare down at the table.  After 5 minutes a plate of half eaten dauntless cake is placed in front of me.

"You can have it." Uriah's smiles weakly.

I didn't know Uriah could be serious.

" I must look bad don't I?" I say

"Apart from the red puffy eyes, sad face and broken heart. You look fine" Zeke whispers.

"Oh god I didn't even notice I was crying."

We all laugh weakly.

"You guys must hate me." I whisper

"We don't hate you." Shauna affirms 

"Why not?"

"Because we can see that she meant at lot to you. And that you care." Marlene responds

"Thanks guys"

Christina

"I'm gonna go find Tris, see you guys later." I state.

                                                                  *******

I find her where I thought she would be. She looks at the water.

"Hi Tris"

She keeps looking at the water ignoring me.

"Look, I'm really sorry Tris, I didn't know."

"It's okay, I know you didn't mean it badly."

"Why did you break up if you don't mind me asking."

"You know that spark you feel with Will?"

"Yeah I do."

"Well it feels like that fizzled and turned off completely."

I gasp and rush over to her. I hug her tightly. She starts crying.

"Christina..."

"Yeah?"

"It hurts.."

"I know it does don't worry Your heart will heal"

"No.. not that..your hug. You're hurting me. I. Can't . Breathe."

"Oh sorry" I let go

She starts laughing through her tears.

"I'm gonna miss him, but it's for the best right?"

"Yes it is."

"Can I sleep at your house?"

"Yeah Will is off to visit his sister So he won't be back for a couple of days."

"If you want you can do my makeup."

"Really!" 

I squeal

"Oops sorry, we are going to get you some ice cream, some plates And a sharpie." I order, "now get up woman!"

"Wait why the sharpie and plate?"

"You'll see."
