One single pea
A holocaust poem
By CJ Birchall

A single Pea
That's all I had
No even enough to feed you or me

The soft green exterior
Oh how I can assure ya
If I had the chance
I would have enjoyed it all
But I shared with everyone
That pea that lay before me

A single pea
A single pea
Oh how happy it made me

A single pea
A single pea
Something I bet you all can agree
That once in your life
You've left on a plate
And probably even thrown away

The little round thing
That some of you may despise
Is the food that saved few lives

The death and diaper
Of everyone there
Left a mental scare
That I can't shake

Each and every day
I get reminded of the pain
That once was a trap
And is now just a story

The terrors I tell
Aren't made up
Oh lord I wish they where
But the terrors I tell
Are my stories
Of hundreds of men
killed in the den

Oh how I hated those years
As cruel as can be
And many people would try to forget those years
But no not me
For one day I will be called upon
as The holocaust survivor
And to that I will reply
"Yes ....... that's me"

And honestly
I don't need your sympathy
For I will always be Happy
As long as I have just
One,
single,
pea,

Thank you
