The next few days turned into the next few weeks, which turned into the next few months, to almost a year. You and Silver became quick friends. It was kind of hard not to. He was very easy to talk to. At least, that's what you thought. And he wasn't stuck up either. Some part of you always imagined that heroes would be so full of themselves, rambling on about how they had saved everyone and not taken anything in return.

    Except bragging rights.

But then again, if that was the case, Shadow should be more full of himself.

Not that he wasn't already. He tended to push the 'Ultimate Lifeform' thing a little too far sometimes.

That would also make everyone in the agency - including you - stuck up brats. Because that's what the agency did. They went out and they stopped bad people from doing bad things, in turn saving the good people.

    Wasn't that what heroism was?

You weren't entirely sure. Either way, Silver didn't seem to push that at all. In fact, the thing he was most known for around the agency was his telekinetic abilities, not saving the world. Besides, you had to admit, his powers were pretty cool. He'd only used them a few times while you'd been in the room, but you had enjoyed watching whatever he'd been doing. Most of the time, it involved someone's misplaced and falling item suddenly halting its progression to the floor, glowing blue as it mysteriously floated back to its owner.

And as if his nice and easy-going attitude wasn't enough, Shadow paired the two of you up so many times that spending time with him was almost an assignment.

    ... Not that you minded.

Silver had followed after Shadow that day he'd first stumbled in. The dark hedgehog had run him through several training tests and such, all of which Silver passed rather quickly. The only ones he struggled with were the ones involving complex technology, which apparently he hadn't had much experience with. As a result, Silver got his license for field work, and Shadow had the two of you paired up. You were both recent graduates - of a sort - and you were practically the same age. Silver and you probably connected better on that one fact then on anything else. It had been hard for you to have the closest in age to you be Morgan, who still had several years on you.

The passing months also brought new tasks, new challenges, and new missions. Although Shadow still hadn't let you out into the field, over the course of a few weeks, you had become a frequent face at the communications terminal. You had led several different teams on several different missions, most of which involved illegal transports of weapons or drugs. There was one that you had done with a team scouting out a private scientific facility. The doctors within had licensing to do experiments with domestic, lab-bred animals, however E.P.A. intel had gathered that one of the scientists might have been using wild, endangered animals as well as possibly even Mobians.

Long story short, the team had gone in and found several disgusting things that you were glad didn't show through the heat scans. The scientist had his license removed, and all of his data was transferred to E.P.A. computers. Codes were being run on the files transported, and you'd heard Shadow quietly discussing the apparently strange contents with the team leader, however that case wasn't one that you were focused on very intently.

No, more of your attention had been on the reoccurring illegal shipments. Back when you had started training, small street criminals were usually the biggest of the world's problems, those being handled by the local police authorities. The E.P.A. was only called in when the criminals went out of their charted areas, or they were using some sort of higher tech pattern to attack and to evade. It seems that as protection firms grew in tech advancements, so did illegal trades.
