Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing was dressed to the nines. She was an elegant beauty in her luxurious long black evening gown. It had a beautiful bejeweled detail at the neckline and a gorgeous ruching and draped detail at the bodice. She gracefully descended the stairs and stood patiently as Walter helped her into her coat. George came out of the library in an excited hurry to show Walter that she had done all her homework, when she saw Integra. George smiled brightly. Her mother was beautiful.

"Are you going out, sir?" asked George.

"Yes, George." said Integra, as she buttoned her coat and prepared to leave.

"May I come too?" asked George, reaching for her coat.

"No George, you may not." said Walter, as he held Sir Integra's purse. "Sir Integra is going out on a date. No children allowed."

"Date? You're going out for fruit?" questioned George, wondering why one had to be so well dressed just to go to the grocery store.

"Not that kind of date George," smiled Walter, a gentle laugh brightening his cheeks. "This kind of date is a meeting between a man and a woman."

"Why is Sir dating? And why is she leaving without master?" asked George.

"Oh boy, I forgot to tell her." sighed Integra, fearing George's reaction to the news.

Suddenly the doorbell rang. Walter answered it. It was of course Jonathan Kant. George growled at him and her eyes narrowed in hatred. She didn't know why, but for some reason, that man meant trouble.

"Why is he here?" growled George.

"Stop growling, George. We're only going out for dinner. Walter, I'll be back by nine. Call me if anything important happens." ordered Integra.

"Yes, sir. Enjoy your evening, Sir Hellsing." said Walter, holding the door open for them.

"Sir?" questioned George, as she grabbed a hold of Integra's dress.

"Don't worry, George. I'll be back soon." assured Integra, gently pulling her dress out of George's grip.

George just stood there, watched as the door closed, and frowned as her mother left. When the door had shut, George dropped her schoolwork and bolted for the basement. George beat on Alucard's door; her insisting little fists banging on his door.

"Maestro! Maestro! Sir is gone!" shouted George.

Slowly Alucard's door opened by itself. George burst into the room and stood before her father.

"Maestro, Sir is gone! She left with that man from the Queen's Party!" reported George.

"Yes, George. I know." said Alucard, a tired and grim look upon his face.

George grabbed Alucard's right hand and began to pull on him.

"Come on! Come on! We must go get Sir back!" pleaded George.

"No, George. We can't." said Alucard, lazily sitting on his throne.

"But why?" begged George, again near tears.

"George, sit." commanded Alucard.

George sat down on his cold stone floor. She wiped away the tears that threatened to fall before Alucard could see them and she waited. Alucard finally sat up straight as he spoke to her.

"George, your mother must marry. And she is going to marry him." explained Alucard, a hurt tone in his voice as he spoke to her.

"She can't, she's married to you. That's a sin." said George.

At this, Alucard started laughing. The gloom he had felt melted all away. He had forgotten that nobody had ever explained the "familial" situation to George.

"We're not married George. We never have been." said Alucard.

George sat there thinking. "So...I'm a bastard?" asked George.

Alucard laughed again. "No, George. You're adopted. Neither Integra nor I sired you."

"You mean... you're not my real parents." reasoned George.

"Correct." confirmed Alucard.

"Then who is?"

"We don't know and we never will. The orphanage where you were born was destroyed. Any and all records of your birth parents were destroyed along with it." explained Alucard, as he sat back and relaxed into his chair.

"But you're my parents now, right?" asked George.

"Yes. You are the "legal" daughter of Alucard and Integra Hellsing."

"Then how can you let Sir go off with this other man?!" asked George, completely angry with the changes that were taking place without her consent.

"Believe me, George. It is not my choice, but Integra Hellsing must marry a human. There must always be an heir. Not that I would mind if there wasn't." said Alucard sadly.

"Then what will happen to me?" asked George, sadly.

"You will one day replace Walter, when he dies." said Alucard matter of factly.

"Walter won't die." told George, as if saying it would make it true.

"Yes he will. All humans do." said Alucard, with a frown.

"She can't. I will stop her. I will not lose her to that guy." determined George.

"I would love to see you try, little one." laughed Alucard. "But, you will learn, the more you try to hold onto things, the faster you will lose them. Now go to bed. You need your sleep."

George left Alucard's room, her mind full of questions and plans. Somehow, she had to stop her mother from marrying this other man. Somehow, she would fight to keep her family together.
